Jersey health minister Anne Pryke assesses alcohol abuse
Jersey's health minister spent an evening on the streets of St Helier with the police to find out how serious alcohol abuse among islanders is.
Deputy Anne Pryke went out with a team of officers on Saturday to visit popular bars in St Helier town centre.
The visit comes ahead of the Health Department's alcohol strategy which is due out in the next few months.
"We need to try and make people understand the importance of limiting what they drink," Ms Pryke said.
"I like a glass of wine but it is drinking too much and the effect it has on the body.
"We must find ways to try and support our young people and make them understand that alcohol is like a drug, it will have effects on your body if taken in excess."
