Jersey companies given grant to take on summer staff

Businesses in Jersey are being offered grants by the government to employ undergraduates in the summer holidays.

Sue Walsh from Careers Jersey said it was an incentive to provide eight weeks of work to university students at a time when many were out of work.

The £1,000 grant is for charities and companies with an annual turnover of less than £300,000.

Jersey's Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst said getting young unemployed people into work was a top priority.

Mrs Walsh said: "Examples of projects undertaken in the past include developing new IT software, websites, modelling CO2 emissions, marketing work, developing an online database and organising the annual Careers Fair."
