Jersey government says it hired 14 people at top pay grades

Between last June and December 2011 Jersey's government hired 14 people at the top pay grades.

The salaries, ranging from £58,000 to £135,000 a year, were for senior management positions.

The States Employment Board said most of the appointments were filling existing roles.

The details were published by the States Employment Board after it was agreed departments must get approval before recruiting at such grades.

There were 6,840 people working in the public sector in 2010, and 598 public sector employees earned in excess of £70,000.

That represented about 8.8% of the total public sector, according to the States Employment Board.
