More than 20 firefighters have tackled a "serious fire" at a fuel compound in Jersey.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the fire at the Esso garage in La Collette at about 00:28 BST by an automatic alarm and security guard.

An area where fuel tankers were stored was made safe but the fire destroyed most of the workshop.

The fire service said there were several minor explosions but it was brought under control by 04:40 BST.

An investigation found the fire was caused by a light left on in a workshop.
