Jersey schools report 'just weeks away'

A report on the future of Jersey's school system will be released within weeks, the island's education minister has said.

Education, Sport and Culture Minister Patrick Ryan said the report had been delayed as he settled into his role.

He said a thorough investigation had taken place, and changes to higher education funding and a review of numeracy and maths could be expected.

Deputy Ryan said he had not wanted to rush the report.

He said: "The most important thing about education is that if you do something quickly, you affect the education of children.

"So everything has to be on a much longer timescale than perhaps everybody appreciates."

Deputy Ryan was elected to the education, sport and culture minister position in November last year.
