Jersey public finances law to be updated
Changes to the law governing public finances in the island should make States funds more efficient, says a Jersey politician.
Deputy Eddie Noel, Jersey's assistant treasury minister, said it would be easier to transfer funds across government departments.
If ministers approved, the panel which advises the government on spending would be given legal protection.
Deputy Noel said the changes reflected best practice.
He said the update would tidy up the process of how public finances are managed.
The Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel is reviewing the changes to the public finances law.
Senator Sarah Ferguson, chairman of the panel, said: "These are fundamental and far reaching changes to the law and it is essential that we understand the assumptions underlying them and the reasons for the amendment."
