Jersey Post trials electric vans
Jersey Post will be trialling electric vans to see if they can replace the company's 120-strong fleet.
The six-month trial, involving two vans and starting next month, aims to see if they can handle the "heavy workload".
The current fleet travel about 750,000 miles (1,210,000 km) every year in the 45 sq miles (116 sq km) island.
Nick Perchard-Rees, from Jersey Post, said: "We are serious about reducing our carbon footprint and we need to know the technology is up to the task."
The company is using an electric version of the Renault Kangoo, which is the van it currently uses, to help with cost and performance comparisons.
The trial, being run in partnership with Jersey Electricity and Bagot Road Garage, will include the company's busiest period across Christmas.
Kevin Keen, Jersey Post chief executive, said: 'If this trial is successful it will provide a very elegant solution for how we want to run our vehicle fleet in the future."
