Jersey crews tackle La Collette refuse fire

Firefighters in Jersey have been tackling a fire at the island's main refuse and recycling centre.

Crews were alerted to the fire at La Collette at about 05:30 BST, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said.

A digger was used to remove rubbish to allow crews to access the seat of the fire, which was in a refuse holding pit.

A fire service spokesman said the fire had been contained and had not posed a risk to the nearby power station.
