Residents around Jersey's La Collette industrial site are to be given information about what to do in the event of a major incident.

Those living within 1,000m (3,300ft) of the site will receive a four-page leaflet which gives guidance on what to do in an emergency.

It follows feedback from an evacuation exercise carried out in April after a false alarm a month earlier.

The area includes gas, electricity and fuel depots and a waste incinerator.

Emergency Planning Officer Mike Long said: "The emergency services and major site operators have tried and tested plans for responding to and managing the situation.

"But... we thought it would be useful to give people who live and work in this area - and indeed anyone else that wants it - more information so they are confident they know what to do if the alarm sounded."
