Jersey Post Call and Check scheme trials begins

Jersey Post hopes its project aimed at helping vulnerable people will get government funding.

A trial of the Call and Check scheme starts on Friday in St Brelade, with postal staff checking on people who have signed up.

Joe Dickinson, special projects officer, said the firm felt it should fund the trial "to prove the concept".

If it was successful they would look for States support to roll it out across the island, he said.

"The service is independent from the post in the sense that even if there was no post for that house that day and they're on the call and check service they would still get checked on," he explained.

"What we're tried to do with the pilot is to have clients from each of certain groups, so we have some people from the blind society, some people from Communicare... we tried to get a cross section as they may have slightly different needs."
