Jersey work success for JobsFest scheme

A scheme to boost employment in Jersey has secured work for 54 people.

Under the JobsFest programme, the States of Jersey Social Security Department paid the wages for anyone being taken on by a local firm during October and November.

More than 100 people were employed through the scheme and more than half were kept on by the companies involved.

JobsFest also ran skills training programmes for the unemployed.

Social Security Minister Francis Le Gresley said the incentive was "effectively an eight-week job interview" and a chance for employers to give jobseekers a chance at no cost to themselves.
