Jersey pubs may apply to stay open for World Cup
Jersey pubs will be able to apply for late-night opening permits during the football World Cup this summer.
Brazil's eastern cities, where most matches will be played, are four hours behind the British Isles.
Senator Alan Maclean, Minister for Economic Development, said pubs required a permit for each match.
He said: "It is important we give pubs the opportunity to remain open for what is the most popular sporting event in the world."
Thirty-two teams will compete at the 2014 Fifa World Cup which starts with hosts Brazil playing Croatia on 12 June.
Senator Maclean said: "The permit system has worked well in the past for other major sporting events and by working with the bailiff, extended opening can be managed in a safe and controlled manner."
