Supporters of the Club Atlético Independiente football team in Argentina have attacked the club president Javier Cantero, after the team was relegated from the country's first division.

Fans jeered and threw chairs and other blunt objects at Mr Cantero as he held a meeting at the club headquarters in Avellaneda, on the southern outskirts of Buenos Aires. He was forced to flee from the meeting room.

Fans hold Mr Cantero responsible for the team's relegation to the B-Division, and have called for his resignation.
