More than 200,000 historic artefacts have been uncovered during construction work on an underground train line in Rio de Janeiro.

The relics date from the 17th to the 19th Century and include items thought to have belonged to Brazil's royal family.

Among the finds is a toothbrush believed to have belonged to Brazil's former emperor.

Julia Carneiro reports from Rio de Janeiro.
