21 August 2013 Last updated at 16:29 BST

Disturbing footage has emerged from Syria alongside claims that hundreds of people died in chemical weapons attacks in Damascus.

Witnesses claim poisonous gas was used, but the Syrian army and the government deny the reports.

A weapons inspection team from the UN is already in Syria to check out claims of earlier alleged attacks. It has not yet commented on the allegations.

Ben Geoghegan reports.
