Egyptian security forces have clashed with militants in the town of Kerdasa on the outskirts of Cairo.

Forces were looking for the people who killed 11 police officers in the town last month.

As they were departing the town the officers were fired upon and a series of gun battles ensued.

One Egyptian police general was killed during the raid.
