A group of young Syrian musicians has gained huge popularity by giving impromptu performances in the busiest streets of Damascus, singing traditional Arabic songs.

The band, which calls itself Wamda - an Arabic word meaning flashes, reflecting their short and sudden appearances on the streets - says the uncertainty of life in the Syrian capital has inspired their unusual approach.

Hadya Alalawi reports.
