21 April 2014 Last updated at 19:17 BST

The Speaker of the Syrian Parliament has said a presidential election will be held on 3 June, despite the continuation of the three-year-long civil war.

President Bashar al-Assad is expected to seek a third, seven-year term.

The uprising against him has left an estimated 150,000 dead and forced millions from their homes.

Jim Muir reports.
