Dismissed Indian air force officer found dead

An Indian air force officer who was court martialled and dismissed from service has been found dead in the northern city of Bhopal, police said.

Anjali Gupta was India's first female officer to be court martialled.

She was dismissed from service in 2006 after a court convicted her of misappropriating funds, insubordination and failure to report for duty.

Ms Gupta had denied the charges and said she was framed after accusing male superiors of sexual harassment.

Ms Gupta, 35, was found hanging at a relative's home in Bhopal on Sunday, reports said.

The police is investigating whether the former officer committed suicide.

Ms Gupta was serving as an administrative officer in the force's education wing when she was court martialled on charges of forgery and indiscipline.

She had accused three male superiors of sexual harassment, but the air force rejected her accusations.
