Bono welcomes US Aids initiative

The US is making $50m (£32m) of new funding available for HIV/Aids clinics and drug assistance schemes, President Barack Obama has said.

Mr Obama also pledged to increase access to antiretrovirals in the hardest hit countries by the end of 2013.

Irish pop star Bono, who was also at the World Aids Day event in Washington, welcomed the initiative.
