Jeb Bush: Immigration a 'gateway issue'

In the 2008 election, President Barack Obama won 67% of the Hispanic vote and is poised again to win an overwhelming majority of that fast-growing part of the electorate.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush tells ABC's Good Morning America that the Republican party must change its tune on immigration, a "gateway issue" for many Hispanic voters.

The brother of former president George W Bush said the party was "sending a signal... that it's only about border control, rather than about how we create an environment of economic growth".

"My message was really about the long haul, you know, demographics are destiny, and if you just ignore it, you do it at your peril."
