A senior Democrat senator, who has long been an opponent of gun control, has indicated he could be ready to change his position.

Democratic Senate Majority leader, Harry Reid, who has a reputation as a pro-gun politician, acknowledged it was time for Congress to take action in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook school in the US.
