The parents of a teenage girl shot dead days after appearing in President Obama's inauguration celebrations have told the BBC that US gun laws have to change.

Hadiya Pendleton, 15, was killed in a park in Chicago in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity.

Despite the soul-searching in the US following the Sandy Hook school massacre, January was the deadliest month for gun crime in Chicago for a decade.
