Nemo: Satellite images show US and Canada under snow

Nasa has issued dramatic satellite images showing the effects of snowstorm Nemo, which swept across the north-eastern United States and eastern Canada at the weekend.

In many areas, more than three feet (90cm) of snow fell in a matter of hours, downing power lines, grounding planes and paralysing transport. By 1550 GMT on Sunday (1050 EST) large swathes of the region were blanketed by snow.

Earlier images showed the powerful Nor'easter storm forming as a cold front from Canada met moist, warmer air from the Gulf of Mexico.
