Cherry blossoms herald springtime in Washington DC

Thousands of people are heading to Washington DC as the first cherry blossoms herald the start of spring.

Each year as part of the Cherry Blossom Festival visitors wallow under more than 3,000 trees which were sent as a gift by Japan to the US over a century ago.
