Obama address on Syria crisis in full

11 September 2013 Last updated at 03:33 BST

US President Barack Obama has given a televised address to the nation to explain US policy on Syria's chemical weapons.

He said the Syrian government was clearly responsible for the use of chemical weapons that killed more than 1,000 people last month.

He said the US would work with Russia on its proposal to persuade Syria to destroy its chemical weapons stockpile, but said the US would maintain its military posture in case diplomacy failed.
