Apple app directs drivers into the path of planes

26 September 2013 Last updated at 13:33 BST

At least two drivers have driven onto a runway at an airport in Alaska after following directions from their Apple iPhone maps app.

Fairbanks International Airport had to shut an access route usually used by local light aircraft pilots.

Apple have temporarily fixed the error, but a spokesman for the firm was unable to provide comment.

Dermot Cole, Fairbanks reporter who broke the story told BBC Radio 5 live's Up All Night: "They drove right across the runway to get to the terminal - luckily there's been no accidents and no planes were landing."
