Obama says Republicans demanding ransom over healthcare

President Obama has again urged Republicans in the House of Representatives to allow the government to reopen.

Mr Obama said the government had been shut down because one faction of one party in one house of Congress had decided it did not like one law - that of providing affordable health insurance to millions of Americans.

He said their actions risked damaging the economy.
