Support for the shutdown in Texas

Lawmakers in the US remain deadlocked in a battle over spending which has led to a shutdown of non-essential government operations.

The shutdown began on Tuesday when Republicans, who control the House of Representatives, refused to approve a budget, amid wrangling over funding for President Obama's healthcare law.

Government workers may be dismayed by the impasse, but many ordinary Americans support the Republicans' stance, as the BBC's Mark Mardell reports from Texas,
