New York Mayor Bill de Blasio: 'Please stay home'

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who was sworn into office on 1 January, has warned residents to stay home after a winter storm caused travel chaos in the north-eastern US.

"The most important thing is that people should not be on the roads today, if there's any way they can help it," he said.
