Chimpanzees escape enclosure at Kansas City Zoo

11 April 2014 Last updated at 14:22 BST

Several chimpanzees briefly escaped their enclosure at Kansas City Zoo on Thursday.

Park director Randy Wisthoff said a ringleader used a branch from a damaged tree to create a makeshift ladder.

The animals did not have any contact with visitors on their hour-long escapade.

The apes were eventually coaxed back to their home with some food.
