John McCain: Taliban prisoner swap 'threatens' US

4 June 2014 Last updated at 01:11 BST

US President Barack Obama has defended the decision to free five senior Taliban leaders as part of the deal to free America's only Afghan prison of war Sgt Bowe Bergdahl, amid criticism it puts lives at risk.

Among those strongly condemning the move is Republican Senator John McCain, who serves on the Senate armed services committee.

He tells the BBC's Laura Trevelyan he is not against prisoner exchanges per se, but these individuals are too dangerous to be walking free.
