The governor of the US state of Missouri has promised a thorough investigation into the death of an unarmed black teenager shot by police.

Details about the incident have been disputed but eyewitnesses said Michael Brown had his arms raised when he was shot multiple times by a police officer.

The killing sparked days of angry clashes between police and protesters.
