Online music video service Vevo says one of the reasons it is launching a UK TV channel is because there aren't enough opportunities for artists to appear on television.
But broadcasters like the BBC say viewing habits have changed, with audiences consuming music programming on an on-demand basis.
Taylor York from Paramore said: "For some bands, shows like The Voice, that's really great but for other people that might not be their out.
"We talk about this all the time and we're still stumped and mourning the loss of music TV programmes. But there's no stopping it, there's no changing it. This is what's happening and we're trying to figure out how we fit into it."
