Queen's Commonwealth Baton begins its journey

Sir Chris Hoy, Britain's most successful Olympian, carries the Queen's baton on the start of its journey around the Commonwealth countries ahead of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Queen has kick-started the countdown to the Commonwealth Games today by placing a secret message inside a baton.

The baton is the Commonwealth Games' version of the Olympic torch.

It will travel the globe in the build up to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year.

Newsround's Leah was at Buckingham Palace to watch the relay begin.
