Surf Report - Friday 19th December

A cold stormy day in Derry after another week when very few locals found surfable waves. It's been mountainous at sea, but stormy and pretty unsurfable too.

Webcams and again, Portrush is way overhead and clean, while La Hinch is a maelstrom.

The Forecast

Ocean buoys predict 20 foot or more for the rest of the weekend, so waves will be pretty big, but it’s the wind were watching. Thankfully tomorrow it calms all over – light southwesterlies too, so there's a great possibility of near perfect, potentially massive surf from Bundoran to Ballycastle, albeit not for beginners. Most places should go well overhead. On Sunday the storm rolls back in, and it could be another windy washout for ocean lovers.

Wet and wild. Water just 10 Celsius. Weekend tides, sizeable. High, Malin tonight midnight, high again tomorrow 1pm.

Anywhere tomorrow morning in the calm, before the winds pick up again.

And finally...
With the ocean now just 10 degrees and these huge swell patterns, it’s a weekend where safety is the priority in the water, if you do venture out at all. If in doubt seek the safer, sheltered spots.
