Experienced sports acquisition manager joins to drive sports archive sales.

BBC Worldwide today announces the appointment of Matt Wills as its new Sports Sales Manager for BBC Motion Gallery, the company's international clip licensing arm.

Wills will be responsible for managing the promotion and sales of the BBC Motion Gallery Sports Catalogue across the Asia-Pacific, Americas, UK & Ireland, Benelux, Scandinavia and the Northern Med regions.

Wills joined BBC Worldwide as Senior Sales Executive for Sport in Sales and Distribution in October 2007.

Prior to this role he was Head of Archive and Acquisitions at Octagon CSI, managing key archive clients including the Football Association (FA) and the ECB (English Cricket Board).

Wills brings over six years of sports archive industry experience to the team and will leverage this to drive sales with sports buyers, federations and event organisers as well as exploiting new broadcast opportunities in the free and pay-TV arenas.

BBC Motion Gallery's archive contains high-quality motion imagery for licensing worldwide. It is made up of more than 500,000 hours of footage including 70,000 hours from BBC Sport plus exclusive content from an archive representation deal with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) covering its major international team competitions.

Simon Gibbs, Managing Director of BBC Motion Gallery said: "Wills has extensive experience within this specialised field and has built up a deep understanding of the management and monetisation of archives.

"Along with his impressive contacts database he will be invaluable in attracting licensing opportunities with new and existing clients."

Matt Wills, Sports Sales Manager, BBC Motion Gallery said: "The BBC Motion Gallery Archive is one of the most impressive and comprehensive collections available and this is a great opportunity for me to bring my experience in selling sports content to build up the sports portfolio for such a great global brand."
