Synopsis:

From the Royal Albert Hall, London. Presented by Andrew McGregor.

The first of two Proms given by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under its principal conductor Bernard Haitink begins with a recent piece by Mark-Anthony Turnage, one of the orchestra's two Mead composers-in-residence. Turnage took as his inspiration not only the city's orchestra, but also the work of Chicago poet Carl Sandburg and his own memories of Haitink's recordings. The work is dedicated to former Proms director John Drummond.
