6.15pm - 7.00pm: Proms Intro Martin Handley in discussion with the RLPO's Andrew Cornall, Kenneth Hesketh and conductor Vasily Petrenko.
A visit in Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture from the city's Philharmonic and their charismatic young Principal Conductor, Vasily Petrenko. He brings a native's ear to Rachmaninov's bracing Symphonic Dances.
He is joined by another young star for Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto - Paul Lewis, whose Beethoven credentials have been cemented by performing and recording the 32 piano sonatas to great acclaim.
To start, a joint BBC/RLPO commission from the orchestra's Composer-in-the-House, the Liverpudlian Kenneth Hesketh, whose first work for the RLPO was premiered when he was only 19.
