5.00pm - 6.00pm: Proms Intro A discussion of 'Poppaea' followed by a presentation of the Poppaea film project.
As well as being one of the first operas ever composed, Monteverdi's Coronation of Poppaea stands as one of the most psychologically acute and powerful dramatic works ever written.
A specially devised semi-staging, based on Glyndebourne's new production, comes to the Proms under the dynamic direction of Emmanuelle Haïm. At the core of this battle of emotional wills is the magnificent trio of Iestyn Davies, Alice Coote and - the soprano who won Prommers' hearts in 2005 as the temptress Cleopatra in Glyndebourne's Julius Caesar - Danielle de Niese.
