Polgolla bomb kills two
A bomb exploded near the hill capital of Kandy Friday killing two and injuring twelve.

According to police, the bus was on its way to Kandy from the town of Matale when the bomb was detonated. The bus was travelling through the Polgolla area.

The explosion happened around 3.45 pm local time.

The driver and conductor of the bus were among those injured and are currently being treated at the Katugasthota and Kandy general hospitals.

Speaking to the media, the driver said that there were around 20 passengers on board the bus at the time of explosion.

Deputy Director of the Kandy General Hospital, W.G.K Dissanayake stated that nine of the victims are being treated at the hospital. Three others are receiving treatment at the Katugasthota hospital.

The street where the explosion occurred has been closed, and the area of the explosion cordoned off while the bomb disposal unit inspect the site.

DIG of the central province Kingsley Ekanayake told the BBC that a man who was seen fleeing from the scene of the incident was caught by residents in the area and handed over to the police.

Investigations are still in progress.

The authorities blamed the Tamil Tigers for carrying ot deleberate attacks on civilians.

In a message issues after the earlier bombing in Katubedda, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said the attack, "shows the LTTE's brutality and lack of respect for human life".
