Sussex v Yorkshire: Lewis & debutant Tredwell rescue hosts
LV= County Championship Division One, Arundel
Close, day one: Sussex 300-9 v Yorkshire
Sussex 3pts, Yorks 3pts
Jon Lewis and debutant James Tredwell rescued Sussex on the opening day of their Championship match with Yorkshire at Arundel.
After Liam Wells (74) gave the hosts a solid start, Tim Bresnan (3-78) initiated a Sussex collapse as they slipped from 108-1 to 188-7.
But Tredwell, who joined Sussex on loan from Kent on Sunday, hit six fours in making 45 from 76 balls.
Lewis (50 not out) then helped Sussex to close on a respectable 300-9.
Earlier, Wells and Chris Nash (28) put on 48 for the first wicket and the home side did not look in any trouble in the first session as Rory Hamilton-Brown made 45.
Bresnan changed all that and took three vital wickets, including Ed Joyce for a four-ball duck.
But Sussex dug in and the last three wickets have added 112 either side of a stoppage for bad light.
BBC Sussex's Adrian Harms:
"A day of fluctuating fortunes at Arundel with honours just about even at the close of play.
"Sussex will be frustrated to have been 104-1 at lunch but 188-7 at tea.
"But the lower order showed this is a good pitch as a third batting point was achieved just before the close."
