Match scorecard

Surrey seized the initiative against Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay as Chris Tremlett and Tom Curran ran through the Welsh county on the opening day.

Paceman Tremlett took 5-60 and Curran, 13 years his junior at 19, had figures of 4-88 as they were all out for 232.

Jim Allenby hit 13 fours in his 69, but Chris Cooke (45) and Will Owen (37 not out) had the only other scores of note.

And Surrey tightened their grip by reaching 121-0 at stumps, with Rory Burns 59 not out an Zafar Ansari on 55.

The visitors have been in excellent form of late, winning six and drawing one in all competitions prior to last Friday's T20 Blast loss to Essex.

And they were on top inside the first 10 overs as Jacques Rudolph, Will Bragg and Ben Wright were all dismissed on an occasionally two-paced pitch.

Murray Goodwin, so often the mainstay of Glamorgan's batting, became the fourth batsman out for a single-figure score, caught behind off Curran to leave them on 43-4.

And although Allenby led a recovery, his sixth-wicket stand of 54 with Mark Wallace (25) was the highest of the innings as they were bowled out in the 54th over.

In brighter overhead conditions, Burns and Ansari then collected 16 boundaries between them to put Surrey in prime position to establish a sizeable first-innings lead.

Surrey captain Gary Wilson:

"We were going to have a bat if we had won the toss.

"I don't think it was a minefield of a pitch, but Chris Tremlett and Tom Curran bowled really well, extracting anything from the wicket there was."

BBC London 94.9's Mark Church:

"It was an excellent day for Surrey, with their paceman to the fore, Chris Tremlett and Tom Curran dismissing the hosts for just 232 as the ball nipped about.

"Jim Allenby played really well for his 69, and Rory Burns and Zafar Ansari looked in little trouble as they guided Surrey to 121-0 at stumps.

"Surrey are now ahead of the game and will look to build on their excellent position on day two."
