Match scorecard

Varun Chopra hit his first century of the summer as Warwickshire made it two wins out of two in the One-Day Cup with victory over Sussex by 118 runs.

Chopra put on 160 for the first wicket with William Porterfield (83) and was fourth out for 111 as the Bears made 273-5 from their 50 overs.

Ed Joyce (47) and Luke Wells (22) got Sussex's reply off to a solid start.

But after Boyd Rankin (2-18) removed both in quick succession, the visitors subsided to 155 all out.

England paceman Rankin bowled Wells to spark the collapse as Sussex slumped from 71-0 to 116-7, with New Zealand off-spinner Jeetan Patel dismissing Matt Machan and Chris Nash in the space of four balls on his way to 4-24.

It was the partnership between stand-in captain Chopra and Porterfield - a Bears record for the first wicket against Sussex in List A cricket - that laid the platform for the victory.

And it confirmed Chopra's return to form after a lean summer by his standards, with his previous highest score of the season being the 81 he made in the first innings of last week's County Championship defeat by the same opponents.

That was followed by four in the second innings at Horsham, 72 in the T20 Blast win over Leicestershire and 46 in Sunday's One-Day Cup win over Middlesex at Lord's.

England batsman Jonathan Trott added 15 and Rikki Clarke 31 for the Bears, while Yasir Arafat finished with 3-36 for Sussex.

Warwickshire director of cricket Dougie Brown:

"Chopra played really well in Twenty20. The challenge for him as a batsman is to lead by example and score runs and be there at the end so guys can bat around him.

"His strike rate is up enormously from where it was and he is batting deeper into the game. He has also captained the side outstandingly."
