  2.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon on Gary Hooper

"He's playing so well. I just think he's getting better and better. His performance tonight was of a fantastic level."

  3. 2153:

On Saturday, the other semi-final takes place at Easter Road with Hearts taking on Inverness. Also on Saturday, Dundee United host Ross County in the SPL.

  4. 2152:

Celtic are back in action on Sunday in the Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final against St Mirren. You can watch that match live on BBC One Scotland.

  5. 2149:

Read Alasdair Lamont's match report here.

  6.

Greg in Alnwickhill: "Dundee United will struggle for top 6 this year, too inconsistent. We've conceded so many goals. If there's cost cutting to come I'll be very worried for next season."

  7. 2137:
    FULL-TIME- Celtic 4-0 Dundee United

Celtic are comprehensive winners and go 12 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League. United struggled to create opening after a reasonably positive start and they remain seventh.

  8. 2136:

Celtic are still pressing for goals and Anthony Stokes gets the break of the ball only to fire wide.

  9.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"United haven't done nearly enough to test their former keeper."

  10. 2133:

Dudnee United substitute Rudi Skacel attempts to get one back for the visitors, fizzing a shot along the ground, but it slips wide.

  11.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Scott Brown makes it 4-0, finishing with his left foot - a goal reminiscent of the one he scored at Ibrox a few season back in the Scottish Cup."

  12.
GOAL- Celtic 4-0 Dundee United (Brown)

Substitute Scott Brown adds his name to the scoresheet with a left-foot strike.

  13.

@Jimrs65: "#bbcsportsound if the teams below d.utd win games in hand then utd could be 10th..just awful season!"

  14.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"It was a bit of a scramble inside the Celtic penalty area as Lukasz Zaluska can't gather the ball. It's knocked goalwards by substitute Rudi Skacel, but headed clear by Mulgrew. Celtic broke up the park at lightning pace, Samaras squared it for Hooper and he flicked the ball between his legs and past Cierzniak from a tight angle. Marvellous finish, 22 for the season."

  15. 2127:

Celtic make another change with Anthony Stokes making his return from injury as a substitute. Lassad comes off.

  16. 2125:
GOAL- Celtic 3-0 Dundee United (Hooper)

Celtic break away and score a third with Gary Hooper back-heeling the ball into the net from a Georgios Samaras pass.

  17. 2122:
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"United not asking Celtic enough questions and the SPL leaders are happy just to coast to victory. They might have had another goal there as Georgios Samaras drove the ball in from the left, but Barry Douglas got back to clear the danger."

  18. 2121:

Pretty quiet second half compared to the first. Not a lot happening in front of either goal and Celtic have been comfortable with their lead.

  19. 2118:

Now Celtic make a change with Adam Matthews coming on for Mikael Lustig.

  20. 2116:

United withdraw Gary Mackay-Steven and introduce Rudi Skacel.

  21.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Radoslaw Cierzniak saves from Georgios Samaras as the Greek fastens onto an Emilio Izaguirre cross. The game is becoming more stretched as United search for a way back into the match and Celtic hit them on the counter-attack."

  22. 2114:

Dundee United are trying hard to get full-backs Keith Watson and Barry Douglas forward. That was a very successful tactic in Saturday's win at Rugby Park but, so far in this second half, they haven't been able to really stretch their opponents.

  23.

Alistair, Dundee: "Refreshing to see a re jigged team focussed on spl success and not thinking about the champions league"

  24. 2105:
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

First chance of the second half and it's almost a goal back for United. Barry Douglas sends in an outswinging corner from the left and Jon Daly plants his head on the ball only to see it swept off the line. Celtic captain Scott Brown has just come on for Beram Kayal.

  25. 2101:
    YELLOW CARD

BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park: "Willo Flood catches the heel of Emilio Izaguirre to earn himself a booking. United need to up their game here if they're to get back into the match."

  26. 2100:

Fairly quiet start to the second half after such a chance-laden opening period.

  27.

Anonymous: "Wanyama would be a greater miss than Hooper."

  28. 2057:
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Five minutes into the second half and Stuart Armstrong replaces Mark Millar in the Dundee United midfield."

  29.

@ShaunRintoul: "It Hooper decides to leave then Charlie Austin would be the best replacement, but would Lawell dig deep for him #bbcsportsound"

  30. 2055:
    Celtic striker Gary Hooper

Gary Hooper scored his 21st goal of the season amidst speculation about his future.

  31. 2051:
    KICK-OFF

    The match resumes.

  32. 2050:

Second half about to get started in Glasgow.

  33. 2049:

Away from Celtic Park, St Mirren have made a signing. Striker Esmael Goncalves has signed on loan from Portuguese club Rio Ave until the end of the season.

  34.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"After an extremely open first 15 minutes when either side might have gone in front, Celtic really have been the superior team since that first goal from Gary Hooper went in. United have still looked an occasional threat on the break, but Victor Wanyama's header has Celtic in control. They were in the same position at the weekend against Hearts though and somehow let them back into the game, albeit briefly. I'd guess Neil Lennon will be telling his players to try to kill the game off as quickly as possible at the start of the second half with a third goal. Peter Houston, on the other hand, can't be too disappointed with his team's performance and might point out that if they can get the next goal, doubts might set in in the Celtic ranks."

  35. 2034:
    HALF-TIME- Celtic 2-0 Dundee United

Celtic lead by two at the break. Gary Hooper and Victor Wanyama on target. The SPL leaders are on course for a 12-point gap at the top.

  36.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Celtic in total command at this stage."

  37. 2031:
    HITS THE WOODWORK

Another chance for Victor Wanyama and his header comes off the bar, with Gary Hooper unable to convert the rebound.

  38.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Joe Ledley arcs a ball into the path of Beram Kayal, but with the ball sitting up nicely for the Israeli, he blasts it high over the bar.

"Gavin Gunning gifts the ball to Lassad at the corner flag. He puts in a cross, Samaras rises to head goalwards but Keith Watson's there too to divert the ball wide. The players clash heads and Samaras stays down for treatment."

  39.
    Sportsound guest Craig Levein

"One goal gets them [United] back in the game. They can't afford to lose another goal."

  40. 2026:

How will Dundee United respond after going two down? They've had their chances in this match but Celtic seem in the mood to impress.

  41. 2021:
GOAL- Celtic 2-0 Dundee United (Wanyama)

Celtic work a short corner routine and Mikael Lustig crosses for Victor Wanyama to head past Radoslaw Cierzniak.

  42. 2021:

Gary Hooper's importance to Celtic is not just about his goals. The striker lays on a chance for Lassad with a superb pass but United's Gavin Gunning makes an excellent challenge.

  43.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Bad challenge by Mark Millar on Joe Ledley on the left, just outside the penalty area. Dangerous position but the free kick comes to nothing."

  44. 2018:
    YELLOW CARD

Dundee United's Mark Millar is cautioned for a foul on Joe Ledley.

  45. 2016:

Game has got a bit quiet since the goal. Fewer chances now after such an open period early on.

  46.

@djamieson9: "can always rely on hooper being there, great counter attack #bbcsportsound"

  47.

Luke: "Russell would be good enough against juve, he's young, pacey and got an eye for goals, I would chance playing him if he signed without a doubt."

  48.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"The Celtic fans aren't letting the news that Gary Hooper has turned down the club's contract offer get in the way of their adoration of the striker. They're belting his name out after that goal."

  49.

@JasonHerron17: "can still see united getting something out of this game #bbcsportsound"

@tino2199: "Why all this talk of Russell going to Celtic. Bigger and better options down south when the offers come along #bbcsportsound"

  50.
    BBC Sportsound commentator Rob Maclean

"If all the chat about Gary Hooper is upsetting anyone, it's certainly not upsetting him."

  51.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Gary Hooper - who else? - opens the scoring for Celtic. It was a wonderful counter-attack. United had a corner cleared, Lassad broke over the halfway line, slid a perfect ball into the path of Samaras who did likewise for the unmarked Hooper. The striker simply slotted it under Cierzniak for his 21st goal of the season."

  52. 2006:
GOAL- Celtic 1-0 Dundee United (Hooper)

Gary Hooper nets his 21st goal of the season at the end of a sweeping counter-attack, tapping home Georgios Samaras' low cross.

  53.

Sportsound guest pundit and former United manager Craig Levein says it's "hard to say" how knowledge of Houston's end-of-season departure will impact the team between now and the summer.

  54. 2004:

Dundee United manager Peter Houston has targeted a top-six finish for his side in his last season in charge. A draw or a win tonight would move them into the top half of the Scottish Premier League.

  55. 2001:
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Consternation in the United six-yard box as Lassad heads a Charlie Mulgrew corner goalwards after Radoslaw Cierzniak flapped it in his direction. Eventually the ball bobbles up and over the bar, but referee Euan Norris had blown for a handball against Celtic."

  56.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"It wasn't clear where the ball was going to drop, but fortunately for the Celtic keeper, it bounced wide."

  57. 1956:

An attempted clearance by Celtic goalkeeper Lukasz Zaluska rebounds off United's Jon Daly but the stopper's blushes are spared as the ball drifts out.

  58.

@Samaras13: "Celtic need a striker to play against Juve & I think Hooper is the only choice, Russell does not have enough experience for me #bbcsportsound"

  59.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Gary Mackay-Steven so close. His exchange of passes opens Celtic up but he slips his shot narrowly wide of Lukasz Zaluska's right-hand post.

"Great start to this game. Gary Hooper takes a first-time volley at goal but hooks it wide. But that's three genuine goalscoring chances in the opening five minutes. As I write, Willo Flood flashes a shot just wide. Good stuff this."

  60.
    BBC Sportsound commentator Rob Maclean

"It's certainly been a lively start."

  61. 1953:

Plenty of chances early in this match. The latest one falls to Gary Hooper, whose flicked effort is off target.

  62. 1952:

Dundee United respond and Johnny Russell picks out Gary Mackay-Steven with a pass but the winger's effort goes past.

  63.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Samaras close to the opening goal. He gets his head to a Charlie Mulgrew free kick from the left, but steers it wide when he should have hit the target at the very least."

  64. 1951:

Charlie Mulgrew's cross is met by the head of Georgios Samaras but the Celtic striker's glancing effort is wide.

  65. 1950:

These two sides have met just once so far this season, a 2-2 draw at Tannadice in-which United came back from two goals down.

  66. 1949:

An early shot from Celtic's Victor Wanyama sails over the Dundee United crossbar.

  67. 1948:
    KICK-OFF

    The match is underway.

  68.

Anonymous: "Think Johnny Russell will want to show Celtic what he's got in him! Hope he stays at Tannadice for another year but think it is unlikely."

Luke: "Celtic should sell Hooper now and buy Russell, it will prove worthwhile."

  69.

    @Toaods: "Hooper's a great finisher but Griffiths is a better player #bbcsportsound"

@djamieson9: "why isn't matthews playing, he was terrific for us againsy the jambos? #bbcsportsound"

  70. 1944:

    Nearing kick-off now...

  71. 1940:

You can listen to live Sportsound commentary of Celtic v Dundee United on BBC Radio Scotland 810MW, on digital radio and online using the link on the right-hand side.

  73.
BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont at Celtic Park

"Celtic were quickly out the blocks on Saturday against Hearts and really should have buried them in the first 20 minutes. That was Neil Lennon's only complaint about his side's display. A similar performance, with a touch more clinical edge, would suit him fine tonight you imagine.

"The same could probably be said for Peter Houston, who must have been delighted by the reaction his players showed to news of his impending departure as they won at Kilmarnock. Gary Mackay-Steven and Johnny Russell attracted even more plaudits for their displays. Can they help stop Celtic running away with the SPL title this evening?"

  74.

Anonymous: "Turning down the offer doesn't mean he's leaving this window. Not exactly showing a great deal of loyalty to the only club willing to pay the transfer fee for him. Could sign & still leave in summer if a big club comes in giving Celts & Scunthorpe big money."

  75.

There's also an in-form striker in United's line-up, Johnny Russell, who scored a hat-trick against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

  76.

Amidst all the speculation, Gary Hooper takes his place in the Celtic team tonight.

  77. 1921:

It seems United will be unchanged from Saturday's line-up. Full teams to follow.

  78. 1920:

Dundee United manager Peter Houston: "We come to a Celtic team that are flying. They're a quality side. We have to be at our best but I also believe that we have to believe in ourselves."

Let's turn our attention to tonight's match. @celticfc have tweeted their team: Zaluska; Lustig, Rogne, Mulgrew, Izaguirre; Kayal, Wanyama, Ledley, Samaras; Lassad, Hooper, subs: Thomson, Matthews, Gershon, Brown, Watt, Stokes, McGeouch

  82. 1917:

We'll have more on that story on the BBC website soon...

  83. 1916:

On the contract issue, Lennon says the extension was offered to Hooper in October and will be withdrawn on 1 February. However, the manager expects the player to be with Celtic after the transfer window shuts.

  84. 1915:

Norwich, of course, had a £5m bid turned down last week.

  85. 1914:

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has just told BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound that the club have rejected an "improved" offer from Norwich City for Hooper.

  86. 1913:

Earlier, BBC Scotland's Chris McLaughlin brought us the news that Gary Hooper had rejected Celtic's offer of a contract extension.

  87. 1912:

Dundee United are the visitors at Celtic Park with both sides having plenty to play for. More on that in due course but first, an update on Celtic striker Gary Hooper and his future...

  88. 1910:

Good evening and welcome to this evening's live Scottish football coverage.
