As it happened

  1. 2215:

Well, that is it for another fascinating night on the continent where the points were shared in the San Siro and David Beckham proved his class on debut as Paris St-Germain went back to the top of Ligue 1.

We will be back on Monday night for Champions League chasing Tottenham's trip to face London rivals West Ham. Do join us then.

    Au revoir and arrivederci.

  2. 2207:
    Paris St-Germain 2-0 Marseille

Marseille probably did not deserve to lose tonight after a performance full of elan and authority in the Parc des Princes. The reality now is that they remain in the final Champions League qualifying position in third place, a point ahead of Nice and five points behind Lyon.

One_Faisal: "Beckham might not have the pace and stamina of old but that lethal touch is still there."

  4. 2202:
    Paris St-Germain 2-0 Marseille
    Joey Barton and David Beckham

Forget his age, David Beckham proved again tonight the value of the timeless ability top players have to affect a game.

The headlines, as ever, will be headed his way but fellow Englishman Joey Barton excelled for opponents Marseille both on and off the ball.

Some Body: "Beckham to Menez to Ibra... Goal!"

  6. 2155:
    FULL-TIME- Paris St-Germain 2-0 Marseille

Paris St-Germain go back to the top of Ligue 1, and that was the definition of grinding out a win. Title victories are supposedly built on such nights when you dig in for the three points, a trait David Beckham will know all too well from his time with Manchester United.

  7. 2151:
GOAL- Paris St-Germain 2-0 Marseille - Zlatan Ibrahimovic (90 mins)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic gets his 22nd goal of a prolific first Ligue 1 campaign. Characteristically, David Beckham had a hand in it as his delicately weighted lofted pass finds fellow substitute Jeremy Menez and his fierce low cross hits the Swede's knee and trickles in.

  8. 2149:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

David Beckham might have replaced wide midfielder Javier Pastore but he is currently marshalling the middle of the pitch in place of Marco Verratti.

In truth, he has yet to have a visible impact on PSG's possession count as they keep on gifting the ball to their never-say-die opponents.

    David Beckham

Real Betis move up to seventh in La Liga following a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Malaga.

All three goals came in the first half, with Jorge Molina scoring after just one minute followed by further strikes from Pedro Alvarez and Dorlan Pabon. The defeat for Malaga, their fourth away from home this season, leaves them fourth in the table, 10 points behind third-place Real Madrid.

RossWiddows: "Beckham on, the stage is set for majestic free-kick."

  11. 2145:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

PSG are playing a dangerous game here conceading the ball to Marseille, a team who scored a 94th-minute winner last weekend against Valenciennes.

  12. 2144:
BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:

"The French broadcasters will be pleased. They now get to use Beck-cam, which follows him all over the field, no matter where the ball is."

You can follow Ben's reports from Parc des Princes on Twitter via @BenSmithBBC

JB on text via 81111: "Amazing to see so many French people so happy to see an Englishman. True talent is always acknowledged and respected regardless of usual banter!"

  14. 2140:
FULL-TIME- Inter Milan 1-1 AC Milan
Inter Milan and AC Milan players

AC Milan remain third in Serie A despite drawing a match with cross-town rivals Inter Milan that they dominated for large spells. It is the first draw in the fixture since 2004. Inter are up to fourth, one point and one place behind Milan.

  15. 2139:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

If David Beckham can use his experience to get his foot on the ball and show some composure, his arrival will be a real boost for a panicky Paris St-Germain who have lost their grip on this contest in the second half.

  16. 2137:
    CLOSE!- Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

Amid the Beckham-mania, Marseille go close to an equaliser as Andre Ayew's looped header on the back post is clawed to safety on the line by goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

  17. 2136:
    Inter Milan 1-1 AC Milan

The board has gone up and there are four minutes of injury-time at the San Siro.

  18. 2135:
    SUBSTITUTION- Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

David Beckham becomes the 27th Englishman to play in Ligue 1 as he comes on in place of Javier Pastore.

Moringe Lomunyak: "The stage is set now for Mario Balotelli late winner, hope he won't disappoint."

  20. 2134:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille
    Joey Barton

He will have to go a long way to outperform compatriot Joey Barton who has been in impressive form tonight. He is all over Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi.

  21. 2133:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

David Beckham's tracksuit is off and the volume in the ground rises.

  22. 2130:
    BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

"This has turned into something of a chess match, with Marseille dominating territory and possession and Paris St-Germain looking dangerous every time they break forward on the counter. An update on Beckham? He is currently warming up on the touchline below me. He stopped a ball that had gone into touch with his left boot about four minutes ago. That is all."

You can follow Ben's reports from Parc des Princes on Twitter via @BenSmithBBC

  23. 2131:
    Inter Milan 1-1 AC Milan

If you have been following this live text in its entirety (of course you have) you will have seen an entry that the Milan derby has not ended in a draw since 2004 - that is 16 fixtures yielding a winner. Is that run about to end?

  24. 2126:
    Inter Milan 1-1 AC Milan

There are 10 minutes left at the San Siro. Are the spoils going to be shared or will a late winner be found?

  25. 2125:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

David Beckham has just taken his coat off. He cannot be too warm, does this mean a debut is coming shortly?

JordanCraig33: "I think Beckham has proved his doubters wrong enough times, time to do it again tonight."

  27. 2124:
    Inter Milan 1-1 AC Milan

Milan are clearly rattled by that goal and Inter know it as they press for a second. Mario Balotelli will be kicking himself for not taking one of the many chances he has had in this game.

  28. 2122:
    YELLOW CARD - Nicolas N'Koulou- Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

There are less than 30 minutes left in Le Classique and Marseille have just nearly gone down to 10-men. Centre-back Nicolas N'Koulou goes into the book for an embarrassing dive in the penalty area, and then follows that up with a clumsy challenge at the other end.

He was shown real mercy by the referee there.

  29. 2122:
    Inter Milan 1-1 AC Milan
    Milan derby

There was a real problem with visibility at the start of the second half in the San Siro but, thankfully, it seems to have cleared up.

  30. 2120:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

We may be minutes away from David Beckham's Paris St-Germain debut. It looks like manager Carlo Ancelotti could have a real problem fitting the more pedestrian Englishman into his flying bunch of South American wide midfielders who look so dangerous on the counter-attack.

Could we see Beckham in centre midfield?

  31. 2118:
    BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

"Touchline camera following David Beckham everywhere as he warms up. PSG fans sing, 'One Big Mac for Gignac.' Bit Harsh."

You can follow Ben's reports from Parc des Princes on Twitter via @BenSmithBBC

  32. 2119:
GOAL- Inter Milan 1-1 AC Milan - Ezequiel Schelotto (70 mins)

Just the lift Inter need as Ezequiel Schelotto draws them level with a powerful header. The substitute has only been on the pitch three minutes and soon makes an impact as he heads in Yuto Nagatomo's deep cross. Game on.

    Ezequiel Schelotto
  33. 2114:
    CLOSE!- Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

A fantastic PSG moves heralds a great save from Steve Mandanda. The France international dives at Javier Pastore's feet after another counter-attack from the hosts.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic collects the loose ball but his usual inch-perfect touch lets him down at a vital moment.

At the other end, Salvatore Sirigu gets his finger-tips to a chipped effort from Marseille's Andre-Pierre Gignac.

    What a game!

NeymarsMohawk21: "I don't think it would be wise to introduce Beckham here, the pace in this game is so quick."

  35. 2112:
    Inter Milan 0-1 AC Milan

Brave save from Samir Handanovic as he gets down to punch away the ball at the feet of Mario Balotelli. The Inter keeper is down injured for a few minutes but is back on his feet to watch a weak effort from Balotelli trickle wide soon after.

    Mario Balotelli
  36. 2111:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

Stop the press. David Beckham does up his laces and then runs off down the touchline.

Is this warm-up heralding an imminent debut?

  37. 2107:
    CLOSE!- Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

Marseille are on the front foot immediately at the start of the second half and Mathieu Valbuena comes within inches of an equaliser after his shot is deflected over the crossbar from five yards.

Kolo Kenneth Kadiri: "There was certainly more to Balotelli's dip in form at Manchester City, than just footballing terms. Dude's a beast tonight."

  39. 2105:
    KICK-OFF- Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

The second half at the Parc des Princes is under way.

    Joey Barton

Daniel Thomas: "I know he's a tempestuous fellow, but QPR's midfield could do with some of Barton's fighting spirit at the moment."

Akude Emeka O: "This Italian referee allowing play to go on is beyond me, clearly doesn't care about fans watching the Milan derby on television. Not good enough."

  41. 2102:
    Inter Milan 0-1 AC Milan

Best chance of the game so far for Inter as Fredy Guarin's low effort from eight yards is kept out by the hand of Christian Abbiati. Better from Inter.

  42. 2059:
    BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

"Fascinating opening 45 minutes at Parc des Princes. Paris St-Germain lead and remain on course to retain that three point lead at the top of Ligue 1, but since Lucas Moura's goal after eight minutes, Marseille have dictated and had plenty of chances. The hosts look very dangerous whenever they break, however, and Ezequiel Lavezzi might have done better on two occasions. While for Marseille, Joey Barton has done his work quietly and effectively, but it is delicately poised. We await the arrival of David Beckham."

You can follow Ben's reports from Parc des Princes on Twitter via @BenSmithBBC

  43. 2058:
KICK-OFF- Inter Milan 0-1 AC Milan

We are a few minutes into the second half at a cloudy San Siro. To be honest, it is hard to see what is going on at the moment.

I am not sure if fog or flares are to blame...

  44. 2056:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille
    David Beckham

There has not been much for Victoria to cheer so far, with the most strenuous activity for husband David Beckham being the rubbing of his hands as he tries to keep warm on the substitute's bench in ice-cold Paris.

  45. 2053:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille
    Victoria Beckham

It is half-time at the Parc des Princes and I wonder what the watching Victoria Beckham made of it?

  46. 2051:

Three points looks to be heading Real Betis's way as they lead Malaga 3-0 at half-time. Jorge Molina opened the scoring after just one minute, before further goals from Pedro Alvarez and Dorlan Pabon put them firmly in command.

The cash-strapped Andalusian side seem to be nursing a hangover from their midweek Champions League defeat by Porto.

  47. 2050:
    HALF-TIME- Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille
  48. 2049:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

I am not sure if Marseille are being brave or naive by playing such a high defensive line. PSG's latest counter-attack sees the referee wave away calls for a penalty after Ezequeil Lavezzi seems to be hacked down in the area by the covering Nicolas N'Koulou.

  49. 2044:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

Say what you like about Joey Barton the person, but there is no doubting as a footballer he has real ability.

After already showing the tenacious side to his game off the ball, his deft flick plays in Mathieu Valbuena only for the linesman to wrongly lift his flag for an offside.

  50. 2042:
    Inter Milan 0-1 AC Milan
    Stephan El Shaarawy

Stephan El Shaarawy's delightful opener is the difference between the two sides at half-time, but in truth AC Milan's advantage could have been bigger but for the fine form of Inter keeper Samir Handanovic, who denied Mario Balotelli on three occasions. Inter just haven't got going and at the moment seems to be lacking the creativity that is needed to unlock the Inter defence.

  51. 2039:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

This really is a cracking game at the Parc des Princes. Paris St-Germain look lethal on the counter-attack with their lightning quick forward players but Marseille are refusing to be daunted.

Sathya Moorthy: "Isn't he the same Mario Balotelli who played very bad for Manchester City a month back??? I doubt it..."

  53. 2034:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

Barton has a further reason to be disappointed as he fails to connect properly with a dangerous cross from the right-hand side and his effort loops harmlessly into PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu's arms.

  54. 2033:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

Joey Barton is snapping into a number of tackles in the middle of the pitch for a resurgent Marseille but he has just misplaced a simple pass to Andre Ayew as he tries to influence the game going forward. Cue rueful slow-mo.

HALF TIME- Inter Milan 0-1 AC Milan
  56. 2031:
    Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

There was some confusion about the opener after the double deflection, and unfortunately for highly-rated Marseille defender Nicolas N'Koulou, the goal is taken from Lucas Moura and given to him.

OptaPaolo: "16 - The Milan derby hasn't ended in a draw in the league since October 2004 (16 fixtures). Open."

  58. 2027:
    Inter Milan 0-1 AC Milan
    Mario Balotelli

Mario Balotelli will be cursing Samir Handanovic's name as the Inter keeper denies him again, this time diving at full stretch to keep out a dipping free kick from the striker. Five minutes until half time.

  59. 2025:
YELLOW CARD- Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille - Andre Ayew

Marseille are finally starting to work their way back into the game against Paris Saint-Germain but Andre Ayew takes that fighting spirit too far as he lunges in on Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the centre circle.

  60. 2040:
    Inter Milan 0-1 AC Milan

AC Milan very much in the ascendency at the moment with Inter looking nervy at the back. Esteban Cambassio concedes a free kick just outside the area when he brings down Kevin-Prince Boateng, but Inter fans breath a sigh of relief as Mario Balotelli strikes the wall from the set piece.

Mick on text via 81111: "Paris St-Germain to win by four and AC Milan by three."

  62. 2020:
    BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille

"Fireworks are going off all around me (inside the stadium) as Paris St-Germain take what has to be said is a deserved lead. They have dictated thus far and Parc des Princes is jumping. Lucas Moura, a man who once interested Manchester United, claimed it but it took a huge deflection and left Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda helpless. 1-0 to the hosts."

You can follow Ben's reports from Parc des Princes on Twitter via @BenSmithBBC

  63. 2019:
Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker on Twitter:

"Superb fist pump from Beckham for PSG's opening goal."

    David Beckham
  64. 2018:
    Inter Milan 0-1 AC Milan
    Mario Balotelli

Samir Handanovic twice denies Mario Balotelli with a couple of superb saves. Balotelli first rose to head Stephan El Shaarawy's corner towards goal, but the Inter keeper pulled off a superb reaction save to deny the striker. Handanovic then produced another athletic save to frustrate Balotelli again.

Jamie Atkins: "Great finish from El Shaarawy, Milan look much more dangerous up top than this Inter team."

  66. 2014:
    GOAL- Paris St-Germain 1-0 Marseille - Nicolas N'Koulou own goal (11 mins)

Lucas Moura has been blessed with wonderful technique and skill but his wayward 20-yard shot deflects off Joey Barton and Nicolas N'Koulou into the Marseille net. Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda was completely wrong-footed by that.

  67. 2014:
    Paris St-Germain 0-0 Marseille

Lucas Moura is shredding Marseille to bits so far in the early stages. The Brazilian wonder-kid is definitely showing why Paris St-Germain were so keen to out-bid Manchester United in the summer to land him.

Anon, via text: "Having been to a Milan derby I can say the atmosphere is insane. You can feel the intensity from the crowd bearing down onto the pitch, it's so palpable."

Fraz, via text: "AC to win 2-0 Balotelli and Boateng. Pastore and Ibrahimovic for PSG."

  69. 2008:
GOAL - Stephan El Shaarawy (21 mins)- Inter Milan 0-1 AC Milan

Game on! Stephan El Shaarawy with his 19th goal of the season puts AC Milan ahead but it was great work from Kevin-Prince Boateng. The former Portsmouth midfielder pierces the Inter defence with a fine ball for El Shaarawy and he rifles an unstoppable shot into the back of the net.

    Stephan El Shaarawy
  70. 2006:
HITS THE WOODWORK- Paris St-Germain 0-0 Marseille

What a start that would have been for PSG. Ezequiel Lavezzi hits the post after a stupendous flick from Zlatan Ibrahimovic plays his strike partner in.

  71. 2003:
    KICK-OFF- Paris St-Germain 0-0 Marseille

And we are off at the Parc des Princes.

  72. 2003:
    Paris St-Germain v Marseille (20:00 GMT)
    David Beckham

It is below freezing in a snowy Paris. Anzhi striker Samuel Eto'o, vying with Lionel Messi for the title of the world's most highly paid footballer, is wrapping up in style at the Parc des Princes in a lavish mink coat.

Another superstar is on the pitch at the moment as Ronaldo comes out to rapturous applause.

  73. 2000:
    LINE-UPS- Paris St-Germain v Marseille (20:00 GMT)

Paris St-Germain: Sirigu; Alex, Armand, Jallet, Maxwell; Verratti, Matuidi; Pastore, Lucas; Lavezzi, Ibrahimovic. Subs: Douchez, Van Der Wiel, Camara, Beckham, Menez, Gameiro, Chantome.

Marseille: Mandanda; Fanni, N'Koulou, Mendes, Morel; Barton, Romao; Kadir, Valbuena, A. Ayew; Gignac. Subs: Samba, Abdallah, Diawara, Aloe, Abdullah, Sougou, Anani.

  74. 1957:
BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:

"Such is the mutual dislike between the two sets of fans that PSG booed the Marseille mascots as they lined up for a pre-match pic."

  75. 1956:
    Inter Milan 0-0 AC Milan

AC Milan are dominating the early stages at a freezing cold San Siro. Midfielder Sulley Muntari fires a shot from distance wide of Samir Handanovic's goal, which Stephan El Shaarawy follows up a few minutes later with an effort into the side-netting.

KevinOnEarth: "Espanyol are sooo bad. Atletico Madrid down to 10 men since the first half & Espanyol keep messing up. 1-0 Atletico, injury time."

  77. 1952:
LINE-UPS- Inter Milan 0-0 AC Milan

Inter: Handanovic; Zanetti, Ranocchia, Juan Jesus, Nagatomo; Gargano, Cambiasso, Guarin; Alvarez; Palacio, Cassano. Subs: Belec, Carrizo, Stankovic, Schelotto, Kovacic, Kuzmanovic, Rocchi, Benassi, Chivu, Pasa, Mbaye, Jonathan.

  78. 1950:
KICK-OFF- Inter Milan 0-0 AC Milan

The Milan derby kicks-off at the San Siro.

  79. 1948:
    BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:Paris St-Germain v Marseille (20:00 GMT)
    David Beckham

"David Beckham is the one warming up closest to the swarm of photographers on the touchline."

  80. 1944:
Inter Milan v AC Milan (19:45 GMT)

Inter Milan: "Captain Javier Zanetti is wearing a special armband dedicated to injured striker Diego Milito: "Torna presto Diego" (Come back soon Diego!)"

  81. 1940:
Inter Milan v AC Milan (19:45 GMT)
    Kevin-Prince Boateng

You would imagine both AC Milan and Inter will be going into this game in pretty good confidence after midweek wins in their respective European games.

Milan stunned Barcelona 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie with Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari scoring. Both start tonight.

Inter's win was not quite so surprising as they eased to a 3-0 victory at Cluj to reach the last 16 of the Europa League, but it was a win that will have eased the pressure on under-fire coach Andrea Stramaccioni, which would be alleviated further win a win tonight.

Elliot Armstrong on text via 81111: "Derby della Madonnina always a good one. Stephan El Shaaraway and MArio Balotelli to prove too much for Inter."

  83. 1935:
    BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:Paris St-Germain v Marseille (20:00 GMT)

"David Beckham must wait for his Paris St-Germain debut but one Englishman we know will be involved tonight is Joey Barton. He starts in a Marseille midfield that includes Mathieu Valbuena, while Andre-Pierre Gignac leads the line. Zlatan Ibrahimovic starts for PSG alongside Ezequiel Lavezzi, with Lucas Moura and Javier Pastore providing support from the wide areas. Promises to be a cracker, the players are out on the field warming up."

You can follow Ben's reports from Parc des Princes on Twitter via @BenSmithBBC

Vinny: "David Beckham to score a 90th minute free kick to win the game."

Tom Waring: "PSG strike force for tonight - Ibrahimovic, Lavezzi, Lucas Moura, Pastore, Menez. Wow!"

  85. 1930:

Lyon moved level on points with Paris St-Germain at the top of Ligue 1, at least for a couple of hours, with a 3-1 victory over Lorient earlier on Sunday.

After ex-Arsenal and Middlesbrough striker Jeremie Aliadiere had put Lorient ahead, goals from Lisandro Lopez, Rachid Ghezzal and Arnold Mvuemba secured the win that moves Lyon onto 51 points, second to Paris St-German only on goal difference, but the latter could reclaim their three-point advantage with victory over Marseille.

In other games, Lille won 3-1 at AC Ajaccio, while fifth-place Saint Etienne eased to a 3-0 victory at bottom club Nancy.

  86. 1929:
Inter Milan v AC Milan (19:45 GMT)

As Italian football expert James Horncastle tells BBC Sport, a number of strikers have switched between the Milan sides but few have gained as much media attention as Mario Balotelli.

Balotelli never disguised his support for AC Milan while with Inter Milan, famously enraging the Nerazzurri support when he wore that side's shirt on Italian television.

Expect no muted scenes if he scores tonight, either. When asked at his first press conference as a Milan player what he would do if he scored in the derby, Balotelli simply answered: "I'd celebrate, yes".

  87. 1924:
    Paris St-Germain v Marseille (20:00 GMT)

All the star names in the Paris St-Germain line-up will be eclipsed before the game when the Brazilian Ronaldo makes an appearance as the club's special guest.

The three-time Fifa World Player of the Year winner will not be as 'huge' a presence as usual at the Parc des Princes after losing more than two and a half stones for a Brazilian reality television show.

Mark_In_Milan: Come on Inter Milan, it is too cold and wet to lose and I've not got my drinking buddy tonight."

  89. 1921:
Inter Milan v AC Milan (19:45 GMT)

Mario Balotelli starts against his former side as AC Milan take on fierce rivals Inter at the San Siro.

Balotelli has scored four goals in three appearance for Milan since signing from Manchester City. Phillipe Mexes and Ignazio Abate also start, having been on the bench in Milan's 2-1 win against Parma in their last Serie A fixture.

Inter, meanwhile, make three changes to the side that defeated Cluj in the Europa League last time out, with Juan Jesus, Yuto Nagatomo and Walter Gargano all named in the starting 11.

  90. 1916:
    Bayern Munich

Champions Borussia Dortmund have lost more ground to Bayern Munich after they drew 1-1 away to Borussia Moenchengladbach on Sunday.

The relentless Bundesliga leaders followed their mid-week Champions League victory against Arsenal by thrashing Werder Bremen 6-1 on Saturday, with striker Mario Gomez helping himself to a double. Jupp Heynckes's men are now 17 points ahead of second-placed Dortmund and are well on course for their first league title since 2010.

  91. 1914:
    BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:Paris St-Germain v Marseille (20:00 GMT)

"Le Classique, as the game is known in France, has been given a dash of added anticipation thanks to the presence of Le Spice Boy, as my taxi driver called him today, and of course Joey Barton, who has built up a growing following during his time on loan at Marseille. The weather is adding to the English flavour, with light snow falling in Paris this afternoon."

Use the BBC Sport live scores videprinter to keep up-to-date with matches across Europe. You can search a number of different leagues throughout the continent and see the goals as they go in.

  93. 1909:

Paul Pogba scored his fifth goal of the season as Serie A leaders Juventus eased to a 3-0 win against Siena on Sunday.

Pogba struck a minute before time to wrap up a comfortable victory, with Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sebastian Giovinco also on the scoresheet. With second-place Napoli not in action until Monday night, the win means Juventus move seven points clear.

Atalanta did not do their hopes of avoiding being sucked into a relegation battle no good as they were beaten 3-2 at home to Roma, while Sampdoria beat Chievo 2-0.

  94. 1909:
Inter Milan v AC Milan (19:45 GMT)

While the Milan derby used to be a showcase for many of the game's finest players, the austerity that has gripped recession-hit Italy has spread to the football pitch.

A fire-sale at AC Milan over the summer saw several of their biggest names leave. The club now boasts an extravagantly coiffured trio of young attacking talent up front, with topscorer Stephan El Shaaraway, M'Baye Niang and Mario Balotelli modelling the 'cresta' hairstyle favoured by Italy's youth.

For Inter Milan, the season-ending injury suffered by striker Diego Milito has robbed stylish young manager Andrea Stramaccioni of his side's attacking inspiration. In the Argentine's absence, much will rest on the sizeable shoulders of loveable rogue (and former AC Milan striker) Antonio Cassano.

BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:

"David Beckham's fitness has been a well worn topic of conversation in Paris this week with the former England captain set to start on the substitutes' bench tonight. He has not played a competitive match since the MLS Cup Final in December. In tests earlier this week, however, Beckham ranked as the third fittest player in the Paris squad despite only joining up with his new team-mates 10 days' ago."

    Paris St-Germain v Marseille (20:00 GMT)

Qatar Investment Authority's huge wealth has seen the Paris St-Germain squad swell with some of the most exciting players on earth.

Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic leads the line up front, where he is supported by Argentine tyro Ezequiel Lavezzi, Brazilian wonder-kid Lucas, hit-and-miss schemer Javier Pastore and the stylish Jeremy Menez.

The Marseille team is much more modest by comparison. Midfielder Mathieu Valbuena possesses an exciting array of tricks, Nicolas N'Koulou is a centre-back of immense promise who is regularly linked to Europe's biggest clubs, while brothers Jordan and Andre Ayew have inherited some of the talent of their legendary former African Footballer of the Year winning father Abedi Pele.

After wins for Barcelona and Real Madrid on Saturday night kept the Spanish giants separated by 16 points in the La Liga table, the side that is sandwiched between them, 10-man Atletico Madrid, are currently 1-0 up against resurgent Espanyol after striker Falcao's 21st league goal of the season.

At the other end of the table, new head coach Abel Resino's reign at Celta Vigo has got off to a great start after he oversaw a valuable 2-1 win against relegation rivals Granada.

  105. 1840:
    Paris St-Germain v Marseille (20:00 GMT)

Ben Smith provides a snippet there of what is to come tonight at the Parc des Princes. The rivalry between the two clubs is the biggest in France - and one which has grown in recent history.

While PSG were only formed in the 1970s, the competition with traditional heavyweights Marseille is huge.

Philippe Auclair, England correspondent for France Football magazine, provides the BBC with a glimpse into the game, saying: "Marseille thinks that it is a bit outside of France, in a world of its own - a little bit like Liverpool does - and that by confronting Paris, it's like the two French capitals fighting against one another.

"PSG has always been about glamour - when they started they were supported by film stars etc. Marseille has always been the club which is famous for its gangs of ultras and its working class foundation and support."

  106. 1837:
BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Paris:

"Not long until kick off now between Paris St-Germain and Marseille and there is a very strong police presence at the ground already. Ten police vans have just roared past me, sirens blazing. There is plenty of history and a well-publicised mutual dislike between the fans of these clubs. My taxi driver filled me in on the journey to the stadium, 'I don't care about Beckham or what happens on the pitch. I just hate Marseille, hate them, hate them.' Let's hope it all goes off peacefully."

  107. 1835:
Inter Milan v AC Milan (19:45 GMT)

400 miles south a city is set to explode after ex-Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli's arrival at AC Milan from Manchester City in January poured fuel on to one of the most heated rivalries in European football. As usual in Mario's madcap world, his return to Italy's second city has not been a quiet one.

Almost as soon as he stepped of the plane from Manchester, his presence set off a mini-riot as thousands of gleeful Rossoneri supporters poured onto the streets with Balotelli at the centre of the celebrations. A reported scuffle with police due to a parking violation and an accusation of the use of racist language to describe him from his new side's vice-president followed.

Away from the circus that surrounds the 22-year-old, however, Balotelli has been in red hot form on the pitch. His four goals in three games has pushed AC Milan into third-place, a point ahead of fifth-placed Inter Milan as the two sides scuffle for Champions League qualification after being left firmly behind impressive Serie A leaders Juventus.

    Paris St-Germain v Marseille (20:00 GMT)
    David Beckham masks

Paris has gone David Beckham mad since his arrival in the French capital last month. With Paris St-Germain, the former England captain has joined one of the most ambitious sides in Europe, a sleeping giant brought rushing back to life thanks to more than £250m pumped into them by Qatar Investment Authority.

If manager Carlo Ancelotti fulfils his pre-match promise that Beckham will debut against Marseille, on the other side of the pitch he will face English football's resident bad boy turned L'enfant terrible after Joey Barton's loan switch to Marseille from Queens Park Rangers. The spiky Scouser has provided a perfect fit for the club from the tough southern port city, quickly becoming a fan's favourite once his 12-match ban carried over from his time in the Premier League ended.

Friday's front cover of leading magazine France Football depicts the clash between Ligue 1 leaders PSG and third-placed Marseille as an angel (Beckham) against a devil (Barton). With Beckham giving his wages to charity and Barton already having picked up a red card across the channel, it seems the French have previewed the game perfectly.
