As it happened

  1. 2237:
    Ligue 1, France

With David Beckham, draped in an England flag, patiently waiting his turn to jog out onto the Parc des Princes we are going to take our leave and allow the PSG squad to revel in their success.

Over in Spain, Real Sociedad have nursed that 2-1 lead over Sevilla through to the 75th minute.

Keep an eye on the BBC Sport live scores page to see if they can hold out.

We will be back tomorrow with the likes of Barcelona and AC Milan on the card. Come on down once more.

  2. 2231:
    Ligue 1, France

The PSG players are being introduced individually to the crowd, then running out through a paper burst, high-fiving their 1995 counterparts and climbing the stage before giving a few brief words to an on-stage interviewer. In summary, it is going to take some time.

  3. 2228:
    Ligue 1, France

The slogan that is emblazoned on the commemorative scarves and the platform is 'Parisien & Champions'. The stadium announcer is introducing members of the 1994 title-winning squad, such as Brazilian legend Rai, before coach Carlo Ancelotti and his backroom staff walks out through a guard of honour.

  4. 2223:

Adam Tungatt: If anyone says Beckham is not a legend and inspiration to many people then they do not know football. What a fitting end, Hero

  5. 2220:
    Ligue 1, France

Jean Michel Jarre? Daft Punk? Your lighting technicians have taken one hell of a beating. This is a trophy presentation that has so far been devoid of either of a trophy or anyone to present it to.

What it has had is lasers and lots and lots of them.

  6. 2217:
    La Liga, Spain

Over in Spain, we are approaching the hour mark between Sevilla and Real Sociedad with the latter 2-1 to the good. Victory for Sociedad would move them back in front of Valencia, winners at Getafe earlier today, in the race for fourth.

  7. 2214:
    Ligue 1, France

Fireworks curl into the air, rockets lighting up the sky at all angles. It looks like the budget for the trophy presentation would be enough to buy a Beckham replacement alone.

  8. 2211:
    Ligue 1, FranceFINAL SCORES

    Evian 2-0 Valenciennes

    Montpellier 0-0 Lille

  9. 2209:
    Ligue 1, France

This is the full Las Vegas showbusiness trophy presentation. The lights have been cut in the Parc des Princes and there are some icy cool, synth-heavy electro beats squelching through through the speakers. Flash-bulbs are popping in the crowd while the players' first names whizz around the LCD boards around the perimeter of the pitch.

  10. 2206:
    Ligue 1, France

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was one of those wiping away a tear as David Beckham made his way off the pitch in the closing stages. A platform has been set up on the pitch, presumably for the players and fans to salute each other one last time.

  11. 2202:
    Ligue 1, France

Twenty-three years after Paul Gascoigne's tear ducts opened up in an iconic football image, there is something appropriate about the fact that David Beckham, the one man who has managed to seep into the general public's consciousness as completely since, should bow out in similar style.

Chris Gunn: David Beckham congratulations. Beautiful footballer and man. Couldn't have a better ambassador for England!

Duncan McIver: Farewell to a great servant of English football, and a true Gentleman

  13. 2155:
    Ligue 1, France

At the bottom of the table, Nancy have dropped through the trapdoor after losing 2-1 away to Bastia. Troyes currently occupy the final relegation spot, but could overhaul Sochaux on the last day.

  14. 2154:
Richard Conway, BBC Sport in ParisParis St-Germain 3-1 Brest

Incredible scenes at the Parc des Prince. The entire stadium rose to applaud and cheer Beckham before the team gathered around to embrace him.

Is that the final time we will see him grace a football pitch? A remarkable career has perhaps reached its conclusion tonight.

  15. 2153:
    Ligue 1, FranceParis St-Germain 3-1 Brest

David Beckham is hoisted aloft and thrown in the air by his younger team-mates. He takes it all in good grace but he looks a generation removed as he returns to earth to shake the hands of the officials while the rest of the them head off bouncing with energy to celebrate in front of the home fans.

  16. 2151:
    FULL-TIME- Paris St-Germain 3-1 Brest

The referee blows up and David Beckham wanders out on to a football field, possibly to feel what it is is to be a former player for the first time.

  17. 2148:
Ligue 1, FranceINJURY TIME- Paris St-Germain 3-1 Brest

Three minutes of injury time to play in Parc des Princes. It will be interesting to see how the contrasting emotions of celebrating a first title win since 1994 and the send-off of David Beckham co-exist at the final whistle.

Stuart Meyer: The beautiful game just 100 times less beautiful with that retirement

Ijaz: Loved the gestures by PSG players during Beckham's substitution. He deserved everything he achieved on & off the field

  19. 2145:
    La Liga, Spain

Over in Spain we are approaching half-time in Sevilla where Imanol Agirretxe's goal has given Champions League-chasing Real Soceidad a 2-1 lead.

  20. 2143:
    Ligue 1, FranceParis St-Germain 3-1 Brest

David Beckham wraps himself in a PSG jacket and takes his place on the bench with a rueful smile. His side have five minutes of normal time to play out on the field.

  21. 2141:
    Ligue 1, FranceSUBSTITUTION- Paris St-Germain 3-1 Brest

David Beckham looks emotionally wrecked as his number comes up on the sidelines. It is the end of his love affair with the game and he is in tears as he exchanges hugs with all 10 other players out on the pitch and then works his way along the entire bench. The whole crowd are on their feet to acknowledge the man, his career and, for many, his character.

  22. 2137:
Ligue 1, FranceGOAL- Paris St-Germain 3-1 Brest - Charlison Benschop

Charlison Benschop finds the net for the visitors, but enough of that. There is a substitution going on..

  23. 2136:
    Ligue 1, FranceParis St-Germain 3-0 Brest

The pitch is looking very big around David Beckham as we tick into the final 15 minutes. He is not moving as well as he might either and with Ezequiel Lavezzi warming up on the sidelines, it looks like there is a tear in the eye of the former England captain. He knows the end is nigh.

  24. 2131:
    Ligue 1, France

Nancy now look almost certainly doomed as they slip back behind with Bastia going 2-1 up courtesy of former Blackburn striker Anthony Modeste. With Reims, Troyes and Evian all winning, even a draw would not be enough for Nancy to survive through to the final weekend.

  25. 2127:
    Ligue 1, FranceParis St-Germain 3-0 Brest

David Beckham has bravely resisted his team-mates' hair dye craze. I suspect that it is hard to have your moody model pout taken seriously on a swimming trucks shoot when you have red hair dye running down your face.

  27. 2124:
La Liga, SpainGOAL- Sevilla 1-1 Real Soceidad - Ivan Rakitic OG (16 mins)

After scoring at one end, Ivan Rakitic completes the set by putting the ball past his own keeper to draw Real Sociedad level.

  28. 2122:
Serie A, ItalyGOAL- Sampdoria 3-1 Juventus - Mauro Icardi (75 mins)

Are the champions going to sign off on the season with a defeat? Seems so. Mauro Icardi finds the net to make it 3-1 to the hosts with just quarter of an hour remaining.

  29. 2119:
    Ligue 1, FranceParis St-Germain 3-0 Brest

David Beckham rolls back the years with a sumptuous, curling cross from the right wing that zeroes in perfectly on the forehead of Kevin Gameiro. The striker mistimes his nod though and his effort screws wide. Beckham will do that all day though if Brest allow him oceans of space and hours of time to weigh up his crosses.

  30. 2113:
La Liga, SpainGOAL- Sevilla 1-0 Real Soceidad - Ivan Rakitic (10 mins)

A goal that will be cheered in Valencia almost as loudly as in Sevilla. Ivan Rakitic puts the hosts ahead and if results stay the same, Valencia will be three points clear with two games to play in the race for fourth. Still plenty of distance to run in this one though.

  31. 2112:
    Ligue 1, France

It is looking grim for Nancy at the bottom of the table with their relegation rivals Evian, Troyes and Reims all winning while they are not. Nancy trail Bastia 1-0 and if results stay the same that will be the end of them.

  32. 2110:
    Belgian Pro LeagueFINAL-DAY CLOSE SHAVE?

Belgian football writer Gary Niblock reports: On loan at Zulte Waregem from Chelsea, Thorgan Hazard has been in inspired form of late. Both his brother Eden and ex-Newcastle defender Philippe Albert have pledged to shave their heads should Zulte Waregem become champions. Anderlecht defender Cheikhou Kouyate and striker Dieumerci Mbokani are both looking to go out on a high with a second title in a row. Golden Shoe winner Mbokani could replace Romelu Lukaku at West Brom.

  33. 2107:
    Belgian Pro League

Belgian football writer Gary Niblock reports: KAA Gent beat OH Leuven 4-1 on the night to progress from this Europa League play-off game 8-2 on aggregate. Evariste Ngolok pulled a goal back in the second half for OHL before Christian Bruls and Elimane Coulibaly underlined the extra class of De Buffalos. The home fans will therefore have one last farewell in the Jules Ottenstadion this Thursday against Standard Liege, part of a two-legged play-off to determine who reaches the Europa League.

That's it from Belgium for today, with everyone eagerly awaiting Sunday's title decider.

  34. 2107:
Serie A, ItalyGOAL- Sampdoria 2-1 Juventus

Sampdoria defender Lorenzo De Silvestri scores his second goal of the season to put his side 2-1 up against champions Juventus.

It is a bit of a mix-and-match Juve side with Gianluigi Buffon, Arturo Vidal and Mirko Vucinic among those on the bench.

  35. 2102:
    Ligue 1, FranceKICK-OFF- Paris St-Germain 3-0 Brest

We are back up and running in the second half in the French capital.

  36. 2101:
    La Liga, Spain

Valencia's 1-0 win over Getafe earlier today did for Malaga's faint hopes of securing a Champions League spot that, with a ban currently hanging over them for overdue debts, they may not be able to take up anyway.

Is that the final nudge out of the door and toward Manchester City for Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini.

  37. 2100:
La Liga, SpainKICK-OFF- Sevilla 0-0 Real Soceidad

After Valencia's 1-0 win over Getafe earlier today, the pressure is on Real Sociedad to secure the win that would take them back above their rivals for fourth place. Sociedad are just getting under way against Sevilla now.

  38. 2058:
    Paris St-Germain 3-0 Brest

Blaise Matuidi and Mamadou Sakho are actually two of the PSG players who are styling out this hair dye explosion fairly well. But you get the idea. It is the football equivalent of last day at school when you get all your mates to sign your shirt.

  39. 2054:
    Ligue 1, FranceParis St-Germain 3-0 Brest

It has been a decent performance from David Beckham so far. His passing, as you might expect, is still right on the money. But playing against a side who are bottom of the French league, he has at time looked half a yard short of being able to track runners and close down opponents. I reckon he has called this retirement about right.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has come close to his hat-trick, but he will have to wait until at least the second half.

  43. 2047:
    Ligue 1, France

If results stay as they are down the bottom of Ligue 1, Nancy and Troyes will join Brest in dropping into the second tier of French football with Evian, the closest team to replacing either of them in the bottom three at the start of play, 2-0 up on Valenciennes.

  44. 2043:
    La Liga, Spain

Granada look to have made the three points safe against Osasuna as Guilherme Siqueira puts away a penalty. Osasuna are down to 10 men after the dismissal of Nano as well.

OptaJean: 3 - Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored his third goal from a direct free-kick this season, the most in Ligue 1 along with Wahbi Khazri. Missile.

Andrew Priestley: What are the chances of Beckham curling home a 25-yard trademark free-kick tonight? He's always been one for a special moment

  47. 2037:
Ligue 1, FranceGOAL- Paris St-Germain 3-0 Brest - Zlatan Ibrahimovic

A stunning free-kick past a floundering goalkeeper, not flown off the instep of David Beckham, but that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic instead. A rocket of a strike that screamed round the edge of the wall and beat Alexis Thebaux to his near post.

  50. 2032:
Ligue 1, FranceGOAL- Paris St-Germain 2-0 Brest - Blaise Matuidi

Blaise Matuidi shins a volley into the turf straight from a corner but the ball skips obliging off into the top corner. It was David Beckham who supplied the set-piece so he will get at least one mention for something other than his impending retirement in the morning match reports.

  51. 2030:
    Ligue 1, FranceParis St-Germain 1-0 Brest

Brest have been given plenty of space to show what they can do in attack with Adama Ba's deflected shot causing Salvatore Sirigu some concern and Bruno Grougi impressive.

It seems fair to suggest that PSG may be demob happy given some of the fun they have clearly been having this week. A good number of the PSG side, sadly not including either David Beckham or Zlatan Ibrahimovic, have dyed various bits of facial and head hair red, white and blue.

Cristophe Jallet's bald pate is already running down onto his face. Javier Pastore appears to have just smeared the hair dye is streaks across his face like Rambo. Extrordinary.

While David Beckham adds a long-range passing option in midfield he is not much of a barrier to prevent the opposition playing. Brest's Kamel Chafni skips by him before forcing a save out of Salvatore Sirigu from distance.

  57. 2012:
    Ligue 1, FranceParis St-Germain 1-0 Brest

David Beckham has looked in the mood to leave his fans with something memorable. A couple of pinpoint long passes almost dissect the Brest defence. Alexis Thebaux has to rush off his line to grab the ball just as Zlatan Ibrahimovic is poised to latch onto one Becks' beauty.

    Ligue 1, FranceGOAL- Paris St-Germain 1-0 Brest - Zlatan Ibrahimovic (5 mins)

Brest, already relegated, had made a bright start, but they don't have a striker of the quality of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede's first touch from Clement Chantome's pass takes him away from his marker and while the defender is floundering Ibrahimovic summons up a net-ripping strike that fizzes low past Alexis Thebaux for his 28th league goal of the season.

As the focus moves to David Beckham, there is some concerning news in France about clashes between two sets of fans. The French League (LFP) is considering more bans on supporters travelling to games after two people were seriously injured in a scuffle between Lyon and Marseille supporters on Saturday.

"These clashes between fans are intolerable and lead us and the interior ministry to consider more restrictions, even maybe bans, on fan travels," LFP president Frederic Thiriez said in a statement.

Veteran midfielder Jorge Lopez, formerly of Valencia and Villarreal, has scored his first two goals for the club, one a rebound and the second a majestic free- kick. An OHL side with two young debutants have been second best. Gent's leading scorer Pele Mboyo has come close to scoring his 20th of the season - he almost joined Norwich in January.

    David Beckham

It's a good thing David Beckham hasn't got any more children - he'd have to wear knee-high boots. The PSG midfielder has had the names of his kids stitched onto his footwear for his Paris farewell. Surely he's got a memorable goal celebration planned, too?

  66. 1939:
    Ligue 1, FranceParis St-Germain v Brest (2000 BST)

Paris St Germain's French language website has said that "un vibrant hommage" to David Beckham will be part of tonight's match. My French is not that strong but I reckon that a better translation than PSG paying 'vibrant homage' to Becks, is a 'vivid tribute'. I like the sound of this.

  67. 1933:

Granada have taken the lead against Osasuna in the battle of those on the outskirts of the relegation battle. Youssef El-Arabi finds the net for the hosts. Victory today would pretty much put their relegation worries to bed.

    Ligue 1, FranceParis St-Germain v Brest (2000 BST)

David Beckham, the man to have made an armband the must-have accessory for a generation of England internationals, has been given one last bash at this captaincy lark. The 38-year-old will skipper Paris St Germain tonight.

  69. 1926:
    Belgian Pro League. Belgium

The Belgian league structure is more complicated than a tax return form. Jorge Lopez has put his Gent side 5-1 up on aggregate against OH Leuven with the first goal of the second leg of their Europa League play-off.

You might think they are bound for the second-tier European competition next season. You would be wrong. The winner goes on to meet Standard Liege in a further two-legged play-off which they must win before planning next term's continental fun. Obviously.

    Belgian Pro LeagueFINAL-DAY DRAMA?

Belgian football writer Gary Niblock reports: On Sunday Anderlecht take on second-placed Zulte Waregem in Brussels to settle the destination of the Belgian title. It's the third time in five seasons that it has gone to the final day. Anderlecht need a point to retain the trophy and, while Zulte Waregem must win to secure their maiden championship and the biggest shock since Lierse in 1997, a defeat could see them missing out on Champions League qualification.

David Beckham may not be the only high-profile figure in Paris St-Germain's first title-winning squad since 1994 to be waving goodbye to the Parc des Princes this evening. Carlo Ancelotti, previously of Chelsea and AC Milan, was the subject of an approach by Real Madrid earlier this month and has refused to be drawn on where his future lies.

"I can stay, that's not the question," he said. "But I want to speak to the club first and then take a decision. It depends on me.''

There's plenty of reaction coming in following the final round of games in Germany's Bundesliga. Schalke coach Jens Keller is a man in need of a lie down after his side beat Freibrug 2-1 in the winner-takes-all battle for Champions League qualification. "Such a showdown, it was pure drama and excitement. I'm exhausted but very happy that we've reached our aim," he said.

With Hoffenheim needing to win to avoid automatic relegation, they moved 2-1 up in an incident that saw Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller sent off on 80 minutes.

All three subs used, Jurgen Klopp stuck Kevin Grosskreutz between the posts. But even he was ushered upfield for a late Dortmund assault on the Hoffenheim goal.

Dortmund's Marcel Schmelzer looked to have scored an injury-time equaliser, but, after initially awarding the goal that would have sent Hoffenheim down, the officials consulted and disallowed it for offside.

    Phew. What a finish.

Where David Beckham might turn up next, now the actually playing football bit of his career is over, will be interesting. While the 38-year-old concerns himself with Paris St-Germain's final home match of the season against Brest this evening, his representatives have been sounding out Major League Soccer about the possibility of buying a team.

When Beckham joined Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007 his contract included an option to purchase an "expansion franchise", and he said he intended to take up the option "immediately after I stop playing".

Matt Beckett: What a shame for Holger Badstuber, all the best for his recovery. So that's 2 world-class centre-backs out for the final.

While the Real Madrid players have found their dressing room relations under the microscope this season, Barcelona managed to steal a bit of the limelight with an apparent disagreement between Alex Song and Gerard Pique when all should have been sweetness and light.

The pair appeared to have a bit of a tiff on the top deck of the Barcelona open-top bus parade to celebrate winning La Liga. Judging by some of the scenes, though, emotions might have been heightened by some aggressive rehydration en route.

How about this for bad luck? Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber has torn his cruciate ligament - while attempting to recover from exactly the same injury he sustained six months ago. The Spanish press have not been kind to Jose Mourinho in the wake of Real Madrid's defeat by Atletico in the Copa del Rey final. Mourinho was sent from the dugout after arguing with the officials and subsequently described this season as the "worst of my career".

"The marriage of convenience between a top club and a top manager has ended in a sad divorce," wrote Miguel Serrano in Marca.

"Without knowing if their triumph will open a new age for Atletico, something is sure: it closes the dark journey of Mourinho through Real Madrid," added Juanma Trueba in AS.

No wonder CSKA won the league - they have the "Russian Mourinho" in charge. After wrapping up the title last weekend courtesy of a 1-0 win over Lyon, Paris St Germain's final two games are spinning in the orbit of Planet Beckham after David announced his retirement from the game on Thursday.

The champions play already-relegated Brest at home at 2000 GMT.

Lyon were hoping to secure Champions League qualification but they will have to wait at least another 24 hours after their game at Nice was postponed until Sunday because of "unfavourable weather conditions". Lille can increase the pressure on Lyon with a victory against Montpellier.

At the bottom Troyes and Nancy are attempting to avoid heading through the trapdoor along with Brest.

There is an interesting result brewing up in Borussia Dortmund, where Bayern's fellow Champions League finalists are being beaten 2-1 by second-from-bottom Hoffenheim.

Two goals from Sejad Salihovic have put the visitors ahead, with Borussia goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller sent off with ten minutes to go.

If scores stay as they are Hoffenheim will move on up from 17th to 16th, avoiding automatic relegation and going into a play-off against the third best team in the German second tier instead.

It was supposed to be a fitting send-off for out-going Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes as he brought his Bundesliga career to an end.

But on their visit to Borussia Monchengladbach, Heynckes' hometown and one of the clubs he represented as a player, Bayern fell 3-1 down inside the first 10 minutes. It was the first time they had shipped three goals in the opening 10 minutes of a match in Bundesliga history.

I'm not saying that spending some of the previous week living it up in lederhosen with a big steins of beer in each hand, celebrating a long-secured title, is behind that slow start. But it probably didn't help.
