  1. 2210:

And that wraps up all the football-related action from the continent for another weekend. Next weekend, we won't be here with any live text commentaries as Europe's top clubs take a breather because of the international break. But we will return in a fortnight with a whole host of continental classics, including a top-of-the table Serie A clash between unbeaten pair Roma and Napoli.

In the meantime, head over to our European football index where you can relive all of this weekend's action and find out all the latest news. Au revoir.

  2. 2206:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 1-2 Paris St-Germain

Paris St-Germain may later look back on this hard-fought victory as a key game in their season. They were a goal down, and a man down, as Marseille were given a golden chance to beat their old foes. But the toothless hosts failed to make their numerical advantage count as PSG fought back to move back level on points with Ligue 1 leaders Monaco.

  3. 2203:
Spanish La LigaFULL-TIME- Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Valencia

Valencia fail to clinch a fifth consecutive win in all competitions as Mikel Rico's 75th-minute header steals a point for hosts Athletic Bilbao.

Andrew Priestley: PSG proved tonight that they are a team to be taken VERY seriously by everyone across all of Europe. Hallmarks of champions.

  5. 2158:
    French Ligue 1FULL-TIME- Marseille 1-2 Paris St-Germain

Nope. Andre Ayew's set piece cannons straight into the PSG wall as the visitors clear to the background of the referee's full-time whistle being blown.

  6. 2156:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 1-2 Paris St-Germain

Here is their chance. PSG goalscorer Maxwell gives away a free-kick in a dangerous position on the edge of his box. Can Marseille convert with the last kick of the match?

  7. 2154:
INJURY TIME- Marseille 1-2 Paris St-Germain

Decent chance for Marseille as the game enters three minutes of injury-time. But substitute Florian Thauvin heads Rod Fanni's right-wing cross straight into the grateful arms of PSG keeper Salvatore Sirigu. Last chance saloon now for the home team...

  8. 2152:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 1-2 Paris St-Germain

However, Laurent Blanc will be furious if his team concede a late leveller after all this hard work. You feel those defensive substitutions could encourage Marseille forward and punish PSG. But the home side are yet to throw the proverbial kitchen sink at their arch rivals.

  9. 2151:
    Italian Serie AFULL-TIME

Rafael Benitez's Napoli side extended their unbeaten start to the season to a seventh game with a 4-0 home win against promoted Livorno. Goals by Goran Pandev, Gokhan Inler, Jose Callejon and Marek Hamsik left Napoli are two points behind leaders Roma, who Benitez's side visit in their next game, on 20 October, when Serie A resumes after the international break.

Hellas Verona moved into fifth with a stylish 4-1 victory at Bologna. The start of the match was delayed for 20 minutes because the visiting team's bus was held up by clashes between fans outside the stadium.

Antonio Cassano, a former Italy international, scored one goal and set up two more as Parma beat neighbours Sassuolo 3-1 at home.

  10. 2149:
    Italian Serie AFULL-TIME

    Parma 3-1 Sassuolo

    Bologna 1-4 Hellas Verona

    Catania 1-1 Genoa

    Napoli 4-0 Livorno

    Sampdoria 2-2 Torino

    Udinese 2-0 Cagliari

  11. 2148:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 1-2 Paris St-Germain
    Laurent Blanc

It must be noted that both Ibrahimovic and Cavani received yellow cards for their sluggish exits from the field. Laurent Blanc was apoplectic with fury at their bookings - he won't be complaining too much if his PSG side see out this victory.

  12. 2146:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 1-2 Paris St-Germain

PSG boss Laurent Blanc knows every trick in the book - and he is using them. The ex-France captain drags off star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and fellow forward Edinson Cavani in quick succession to a) waste time and b) shore up his defence as we enter the final 10 minutes.

  13. 2144:

Arenalounge: Allegri will be sacked this season. Milan are not ready, with the likes of Roma & Napoli hotting up.

  14. 2141:
Spanish La LigaGOAL- Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Valencia

T'other side of the Pyrenees, Athletic Bilbao bag a late equaliser against visitors Valencia. Midfielder Mikel Rico nods in from close range for the Basque hosts.

  15. 2139:
Italian Serie AFULL-TIME- Juventus 3-2 AC Milan
Juventus's Sebastian Giovinco celebrates after scoring against AC Milan

Relief in Turin as Juventus hang on to secure a fourth straight Serie A win. It was far from comfortable for Antonio Conte's side but they proved too good in the end for Milan, who head into the international break 12th place in the table.

  16. 2138:
FINAL FIFTEEN- Marseille 1-2 Paris St-Germain

Marseille introduce Andre-Pierre Gignac in a bid to give them some much-needed attacking punch. The France forward almost makes an instant impact as his effort whistles over the PSG crossbar. Quarter of an hour for Marseille to make their numerical advantage count...

  17. 2136:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 1-2 Paris St-Germain

This has been a gutsy display by 10-man Paris St-Germain who are showing exactly why they are the French champions. Laurent Blanc's side have shown steel and been totally unfazed by Thiago Motta's first-half dismissal. A defeat here would be very embarrassing for Marseille though...

  18. 2134:
Italian Serie AJuventus 3-2 AC Milan - Muntari (90 mins)

Are we about to witness a great Milan comeback? The 10-man visitors were looking down and out but a mistake by Juve substitute Paul Pogba allows Sulley Muntari to score his second goal of the night with the aid of a deflection. Those noisy Juventus fans have gone quiet.

OptaJean: Zlatan Ibrahimovic has now scored six goals in four games against Marseille.

  20. 2128:
GOAL- Marseille 1-2 Paris St-Germain - Zlatan Ibrahimovic (66 mins)

Can the Swedish superstar keep his cool? You betcha! Even some joker in the crowd shining a laser pen at his bonce does not put off Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who coolly rolls past Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda.

  21. 2128:
Italian Serie AJuventus 3-1 AC Milan

We are in the closing stage in Turin and it is a case of damage limitation for Milan. Juventus are heading for their sixth win in seven league games this season while the visitors, 18-times winners of Serie A, are heading for the bottom half of the table.

  22. 2126:
PENALTY TO PSG- Marseille 1-1 Paris St-Germain

Can you believe it! Marseille forward Andre Ayew produces a typical striker's challenge in his own box to gift PSG a penalty. Up steps Zlatan Ibrahimovic...

  23. 2125:
    French Ligue 1CLOSE!- Marseille 1-1 Paris St-Germain

Dimitri Payet seizes the initiative for Marseille, drifting inside before letting fly with a swerving, devilish, strike that a rather flustered PSG stopper Salvatore Sirigu somehow palms out. The Italian shakes his head in disbelief as he lets out a huge sigh of relief. He knows that could been bad news.

Ben Young: Andrea Pirlo is almost as magnificent as his beard.

  25. 2119:
Italian Serie AGOAL- Juventus 3-1 AC Milan - Chiellini (75 mins)
AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes is shown a red card against Juventus

Milan capitulate. After falling behind for the first time, defender Philippe Mexes is sent off for dissent seconds after conceding a free-kick on the edge of his own area. Andrea Pirlo is denied his second of the night by the bar but Giorgio Chiellini reacts quickest to the rebound and volleys home from 16-yards. That's what you call a sweet finish.

  26. 2118:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 1-1 Paris St-Germain

Neither side has tested the opposing goalkeeper in a quiet opening to the second half. That man Zlatan Ibrahimovic clips a clever ball towards PSG colleague Blaise Matuidi who is outmuscled by the burly figure of Nicolas Nkoulou.

  27. 2114:
Italian Serie AGOAL- Juventus 2-1 AC Milan - Giovinco (69 mins)
    Juventus's Giovinco

He has only been on the pitch for one minute and 48 seconds yet Juve substitute Sebastian Giovinco makes his presence felt immediately with a fine finish to put his side ahead for the first time. Can Milan salavage this?

  28. 2113:
Italian Serie AJuventus 1-1 AC Milan

Substitute Paul Pogba sees the chance to put his name up in lights but his powerful attempt is straight at Milan keeper Christian Abbiati.

Both of tonight's key games are deadlocked at that most common of scorelines - 1-1. Will anybody snatch a winner in France or Italy? Who are you backing for a double? Let us know using #bbceurofooty or via text on 81111.

  30. 2108:
Italian Serie AJuventus 1-1 AC Milan

The home crowd is in full voice. But I doubt that will last if Juventus cannot find a second goal. Milan will be happy with this scoreline but they are by no means sitting back.

And the visitors go close to taking the lead for a second time as Nigel de Jong unleashes a fierce effort which flashes narrowly wide.

  31. 2107:
    French Ligue 1KICK-OFF- Marseille 1-1 Paris St-Germain

What I love about French football is how the host broadcaster interviews the players as they head out of the tunnel for the second half. I'd love to tell you what PSG's Blaise Matuidi has to say. But I can't. Je ne parle pas francais.

I can tell you that the second half has kicked off.

  32. 2104:
    Spanish La Liga

Don't worry we haven't forgotten about the late game in Spain. Athletic Bilbao are hosting Valencia and it is the visitors who lead at the interval. Los Che are ahead thanks to Ever Banega's 43rd-minute penalty.

  33. 2101:
Italian Serie ACLOSE!- Juventus 1-1 AC Milan
    AC Milan forward Robinho

Robinho cannot believe he has not scored for Milan. The former Manchester City player only has goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to beat after a beautifully threaded pass by Alessandro Matri. Robinho presses the trigger but Buffon uses his left hand to somehow keep out the low shot.

Juventus immediatately respond by sending on substitute Paul Pogba.

  34. 2100:
    French Ligue 1FULL-TIME

Lyon's desperate form continued as the seven-time champions were hammered 5-1 at Ligue 1 rivals Montpellier.

Remi Garde's side have made a dreadful start, winning just one of their last 11 matches in all competitions.

Montpellier led 2-0 at the break before Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette pulled a goal back in the 48th minute. But any hopes of a comeback were dashed when they conceded three further goals in the space of nine minutes.

  35. 2057:
    French Ligue 1FULL-TIME

Two other matches took place earlier - and they were both big scorelines.

    Montpellier 5-1 Lyon

    Bordeaux 4-1 Sochaux

  36. 2054:
Italian Serie AJuventus 1-1 AC Milan

Just like in the first half, Milan have the first opportunity of the new half but this time Riccardo Montolivo's attempt is tame and Gianluigi Buffon saves comfortably. Moments later Juventus pour forward and Arturo Vidal forces a corner from a long range shot. The game remains evenly poised.

  37. 2052:
    HALF-TIME- Marseille 1-1 Paris St-Germain

And Maxwell's equaliser is virtually the final kick of a fiery first half on the south coast of France. You can almost hear a pin drop in the Stade Velodrome as the referee blows his whistle. Marseille are shell-shocked, PSG just shocked that they are back in the game.

  38. 2050:
Italian Serie AKICK-OFF- Juventus 1-1 AC Milan

And the answer is no. Pogba remains on the Juve substitutes bench as the second half begins.

  39. 2048:
Italian Serie AJuventus 1-1 AC Milan

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been sent out to warm up in the rain in Turin. Is the 20-year-old about to make an entrance for Juventus?

  40. 2048:
    GOAL- Marseille 1-1 Paris St-Germain - Maxwell (45 mins)

Right on the cusp of the interval, 10-man PSG silence the Stade Velodrome. Brazilian defender Maxwell finds himself unmarked in the six-yard box to nod in. Only he knows what he was doing up there - but he's not complaining.

Barton: Can see Tevez scoring second half, he can run that Milan defence ragged.

  42. 2045:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 1-0 Paris St-Germain

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a man who can pull a rabbit out of the hat - and some magic from the Swede is required now. The PSG striker almost provides it with an acrobatic effort that forces Marseille goalie Steve Mandanda into a leaping stop.

Opta Jean: Marseille have won their first penalty in Ligue 1 in 2013, their last before today coming in December 2012 v Toulouse

  44. 2041:
    SUBSTITUTION- Marseille 1-0 Paris St-Germain

Thiago Motta's dismissal sparks a tactical substitution from PSG boss Laurent Blanc. Argentina forward Ezequiel Lavezzi is sacrificed as midfielder Adrien Rabiot comes on in the reshuffle. Lavezzi is not happy. Come on son, take one for the team.

OptaPaolo: Sulley Muntari scored after 19 seconds - the fastest goal in this Serie A season.

  46. 2037:
    French Ligue 1GOAL- Marseille 1-0 Paris St-Germain - Andre Ayew (34 mins)
    Marseille v PSG

After all those shenanigans, Marseille finally get around to taking the spot-kick as Andre Ayew steps up after a long wait. The Ghana striker is calmness personified as he dispatches emphatically past PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

  47. 2035:
French Ligue 1RED CARD- Marseille 0-0 Paris St-Germain

And it gets worse for PSG! Thiago Motta, one of their leading lights, is dismissed for that rather robust challenge. Motta tries to control the ball on his chest inside his own area, fails miserably as Valbuena nips in and then clumsily boots the Marseille man. Penalty, yes. Red card? Debatable.

Tom Miszkowski: Cracking free-kick from Pirlo against the club who let him go. It's been coming, Juve have been peppering Abbiati's goal.

  49. 2034:
Italian Serie AHALF-TIME- Juventus 1-1 AC Milan

Full marks to both sides for overcoming the damp conditions to produce a thoroughly entertaining game. Both teams have provided an intriguing tactical battle. Juventus responded well after conceding so early in the game but Milan do not look like a team that has struggled to get their season going. It is all to play for.

  50. 2033:
French Ligue 1PENALTY TO MARSEILLE- Marseille 0-0 Paris St-Germain

PSG midfielder Thiago Motta hacks down Marseille's Mathieu Valbuena in the box - penalty. No question whatsoever...

  51. 2032:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 0-0 Paris St-Germain

PSG threaten that record as a vicious corner swings into the Marseille danger zone, but home goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, who was blamed for one of Borussia Dortmund's goals in the midweek Champions League defeat, claims with a commanding jump.

  52. 2030:

OptaJean: Marseille are the only team yet to concede a goal in the opening 30 minutes of a Ligue 1 game this season.

Elie Baup's side have another three minutes to protect that fine record...

  53. 2028:
Italian Serie AJuventus 1-1 AC Milan

The rain continues to pour in Turin but that is only contributing to what is an absorbing contest between these two famous Italian clubs. There are five minutes left in the first half and both sides continue to show their attacking intent.

Carlos Tevez goes sprawling inside the Milan penalty area under a challenge by Kevin Constant but the referee is not interested despite cries from the home crowd for a Juventus penalty.

  54. 2027:
French Ligue 1GREAT SAVE!- Marseille 0-0 Paris St-Germain

The game explodes into life as PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu is required to make an outstanding double save from Marseille's Andre Ayew. The home fans find their voices again as Marseille are lifted by that chance.

  55. 2024:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 0-0 Paris St-Germain

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani is a strikeforce which the whole of Europe glances enviously towards. The pair almost link up beautifully as the Swede tries a deft chip over the Marseille backline which an outstretched Cavani can't toe poke towards goal.

  56. 2022:
Italian Serie AJuventus 1-1 AC Milan

Milan have re-grouped after conceding the equaliser and are now starting to put the Juventus defence under pressure. Riccardo Montolivo surges forward leaving Andrea Pirlo in his wake only to waste a promising opportunity by firing high and wide.

Tom Miszkowski: Decisions, decisions, Juve vs. AC Milan, Marseille vs. PSG or Antiques Roadshow, just can't decide.

We know you are with us, Tom.

  58. 2017:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 0-0 Paris St-Germain

First opportunity for Marseille. Midfielder Dimitri Payet is fouled on the edge of the PSG area by Thiago Motta and it looks to be within perfect striking distance of set-piece expert Mathieu Valbuena. The diminutive Marseille man cheekily tries to deceive Salvatore Sirigu with a low shot to his near post, but the away stopper recovers to repel the effort.

  59. 2015:
Italian Serie AJuventus 1-1 AC Milan

There is a lull in proceedings. It is hardly surprising considering the high-tempo start. It has been enthralling stuff so far between two committed teams who want to win.

OptaJean: Paris SG have picked up 25 points from a possible 27 in their last nine away league games.

  61. 2012:
Italian Serie AJuventus 1-1 AC Milan

Despite the heavy rain, the temperature continues to rise in Turin. Milan's Robinho falls to the ground clutching his head after Leonardo Bonucci appears to make contact with the Brazil forward. The Juventus player escapes with a yellow card. It might have been a red if Robinho had not gone to ground so easily.

  62. 2007:
    French Ligue 1Marseille 0-0 Paris St-Germain

As if things don't need stoking anymore in Stade Velodrome, Marseille's Mathieu Valbuena reacts angrily to a challenge from PSG counterpart Marco Verratti. It is a battle of the vertically-challenged as the pair square up before the referee gives a finger-wagging ticking off to each player.

  63. 2003:
    French Ligue 1KICK-OFF- Marseille 0-0 Paris St-Germain

The referee shakes hands with PSG boss Laurent Blanc and his Marseille counterpart Elie Baup before carefully removing the match ball from its perch on a white plinth. That kind of razzmatazz is usually reserved for cup finals isn't it? Anyway, PSG get things underway - to a chorus of jeers.

  64. 2000:
Italian Serie AGOAL- Juventus 1-1 AC Milan - Pirlo (15 mins)
    Juventus' Andrea Pirlo

We are only 15 minutes into this game but what a cracker it is turning out to be. The Milan defence has come under intense pressure in the last few minutes but they look to have weathered the storm when Nigel De Jong needlessly concedes a free-kick just outside his area after bringing down Carlos Tevez.

Up steps Andrea Pirlo to find the net with an exquisite free-kick which brings his side back on level terms. Game on.

  65. 2000:
Italian Serie AJuventus 0-1 AC Milan

That's more like from Juventus as they come roaring back by creating three quick chances to lift their fans. Fabio Quagliarella and Kwadwo Asamoah both go close before Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati produces a flying save to deny Giorgio Chiellini.

  66. 1957:
    French Ligue 1Marseille v Paris St-Germain (2000 BST)

It is absolutely belting it down with rain in the Stade Velodrome - but it ain't dampening the red-hot atmosphere that is for sure. The teams are sizing each other up in the tunnel. It looks very relaxed down there - smiles and handshakes all round. Zlatan Ibrahimovic looks mean and moody though, naturally.

Chazzzz: Re 1916. Think PSG could become a world class team over the next few years but Monaco will never cut it no matter how much they spend.

  68. 1955:
Italian Serie AJuventus 0-1 AC Milan

Juventus haven't got going in the opening exchanges and are still coming to terms with conceding in the opening seconds of the match. Remember, the Old Lady have not lost this season in the league.

  69. 1950:
    French Ligue 1LINE-UPS- Marseille v Paris St-Germain (2000 BST)

Marseille: Mandanda, Fanni, Nkoulou, Lucas Mendes, Mendy, Romao, Imbula, Payet, Valbuena, A Ayew, J Ayew. Subs: Samba, Diawara, Cheyrou, Lemina, Thauvin, Gignac, Khalifa.

PSG: Sirigu, Van der Wiel, Alex, Marquinhos, Maxwell, Verratti, Thiago Motta, Matuidi, Cavani, Lavezzi, Ibrahimovic. Subs: Douchez, Camara, Digne, Jallet, Lucas, Pastore, Rabiot.

  70. 1946:
Italian Serie AGOAL- Juventus 0-1 AC Milan - Muntari (1 min)
    Sulley Muntari of AC Milan

What an astonishing start by Milan. The home fans are still taking their seats inside the ground when the visitors press forward from the kick-off.

Riccardo Montolivo decides to have a shot at goal but mis-kicks horribly only for the ball to squirm to the unmarked Sulley Muntari, who scores with his weaker right foot from about 10-yards. Juventus are stunned.

  71. 1945:
Italian Serie AKICK-OFF- Juventus v AC Milan

We're underway in a sodden Turin - Juventus will be aiming for a quick start against a struggling Milan.

  72. 1943:
Italian Serie AJuventus v AC Milan (1945 BST)

It is raining in Turin where AC Milan are looking to kick-start their season after an indifferent start. Having won just two of their opening six Serie A games, they are without a league win away from home since the end of last season.

In contrast, reigning champions Juventus have won five of the first six league games including the last three.

  73. 1940:
Spanish La LigaAthletic Bilbao v Valencia (2000 BST)

Shortly, there is another La Liga game to keep you up to date with - the clash between sixth-placed Athletic Bilbao and seventh-placed Valencia. That one will be spicier than the finest cut of Spanish chorizo.

Shohidur Rahman: Shout out to Atletico. 8 wins out of 8. Diego Simeone is doing amazing work.

  75. 1937:
    Spanish La Liga

Earlier there was also some important action in Spain. Diego Costa scored twice as Atletico Madrid stretched their winning start in La Liga to eight games with a 2-1 victory over visitors Celta Vigo.

The win moved Atletico back level on points with Barcelona at the top, five points ahead of Real Madrid.

  76. 1934:
    Turkish Super Lig
Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini

While we are on the subject of Manchester City, let's talk about another former Blue - Bobby Manc. Ex-City manager Roberto Mancini suffered a losing start in his first league game in charge of Turkish champions Galatasaray earlier.

Mancini's side were 2-0 behind away to Akhisar Belediyespor, Oumar Niasse scoring in each half for the hosts. Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba reduced the deficit but it proved nothing more than a consolation. Galatasaray are without a league win in five games and have seven points from six games.

  77. 1932:
Juventus v AC Milan (1945 BST)

Italy striker Balotelli was able to play in midweek, earning and scoring a controversial penalty to hand Milan a 1-1 draw away to Ajax in the Champions League.

Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri believes Balotelli will be a big miss against Juventus. "He can't have these hysterical attacks. If he stops them and does these things he can help himself, Milan and the national squad," he said.

  78. 1931:
Italian Serie AJuventus v AC Milan (1945 BST)
Former Manchester City players Carlos Tevez (l) and Mario Balotelli

There will be no Manchester City old boys reunion on the pitch when Juventus look to continue their flourishing start to the season against AC Milan in Turin.

While Carlos Tevez starts for the Old Lady, Milan's top scorer Mario Balotelli is absent as he serves the final week of a three-match ban for using "intimidating and insulting" words to the referee after a 2-1 defeat by Napoli last month.

  79. 1929:
Italian Serie AJuventus v AC Milan (1945 BST)
    Juventus striker Carlos Tevez

It is only two years since Carlos Tevez cut an unhappy figure at Manchester City, but the 29-year-old is flourishing in the No 10 shirt at Juventus, whose previous owners include Michel Platini, Roberto Baggio, and Alessandro Del Piero.

The former Manchester United forward has been one of Antonio Conte's most influential players since joining in the summer and tells Hurra Juventus magazine: "It's like a big family at Juventus. We're all close and this allows us to grow day by day.

"I'm trying to play the way I did growing up in my old neighbourhood. I want to relive this unique situation. My dream now is to stay with Juventus and enjoy every moment."

  80. 1926:
Italian Serie ALINE-UPS- Juventus v AC Milan (1945 BST)

Juventus team: Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Padoin, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Asamoah, Tevez, Quagliarella. Subs: Storari, Rubinho, Ogbonna, Peluso, Motta, Isla, Pogba, De Ceglie, Giovinco, Llorente.

AC Milan: Abbiati, Mexes, Zapata, Abate, Constant, Muntari, De Jong, Montolivo, Nocerino, Robinho, Matri. Subs: Amelia, Emanuelson, Gabriel, Niang, Zaccardo, Poli, Mastalli.

  81. 1924:
Italian Serie ATEAM NEWS- Juventus v AC Milan (1945 BST)

Unfortunately Abdullah, we won't see what Pogba is made of - at least not from the start. The Frenchman is named on the Juventus bench, but ex-Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez does start.

Abdullah Mulla: Today, we'll see why Pogba was the answer to MUFC's midfield problems. Rising star!

  83. 1920:
Italian Serie AJuventus v AC Milan (1945 BST)

Speaking of stylish cities, those Milanese folk are pretty snappy too. And one of their sides - AC Milan - are taking part in tonight's other big game on the continent. The Rossoneri travel to Turin where defending champions Juventus lie in wait.

  84. 1916:

So are Marseille capable of beating PSG? And could they upset the odds and mount a title challenge alongside PSG and Monaco?

Let us know your thoughts. In fact we insist on hearing them. Get in touch by using #bbceurofooty on Twitter or via text on 81111.

And what do you make of the French nouveaux rich PSG and Monaco? Are they capable of becoming genuine European superpowers over the next few years? You know what to do. Tweet or text.

Opta Jean: Marseille have won their last three league games against the reigning champions.

  86. 1911:
    French Ligue 1Marseille v Paris St-Germain (2000 BST)

Marseille, with the help of English loanee Joey Barton, finished as runners-up behind PSG last term, but must overcome an almighty monetary chasm to achieve similar success this campaign.

Qatari-backed PSG think nothing of splashing millions on the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva, while Monaco are similarly financially endowed having flashed the chequebook to sign £50m striker Radamel Falcao among others.

Marseille, who you may remember attracted a host of glamorous players in the late 1980s and early 1990s, are operating a different level now. But tonight represents an opportunity to show the world that they can still mix it with their fierce rivals.

  87. 1908:
    French Ligue 1Marseille v Paris St-Germain (2000 BST)

While mega-rich, Russia billionaire-owned, Monaco have emerged as PSG's chief title rivals, it is 'Le Classique' which gets even the most passionate Frenchman's pulse racing.

Paris v Marseille. The north v the south. It is a clash of opposing views on French football, politics, culture and society.

On the pitch, it was a rivalry established in the late 1980s and 1990s when the pair slugged out for the country's top honours. A lean period followed for each club until Marseille clinched the Ligue 1 title in 2010, which was followed up by PSG's triumph - after a 19-year drought last season.

  88. 1904:
    French Ligue 1Marseille v Paris St-Germain (2000 BST)

Bonjour mes amis! Paris St-Germain could move back level with their nouveaux-rich rivals Monaco in the next few hours, but that still may not placate their suave supporters.

The Parisians demand style as well as substance from their side - and, despite Laurent Blanc's unbeaten side racking up 18 points from their opening eight games, they are craving more panache from the defending champions.

Now PSG have the perfect platform on which to strut their stuff. Tonight they visit old foes Marseille in the biggest game of the French domestic calendar. Tonight it is 'Le Classique'.

  89. 1900:

Paris is universally regarded as the 'capital of style'. Some of the world's most glamorous types strut provocatively around the French city like peacocks spreading their feathers. But the Parisians do not only demand cutting-edge style from their chic clothes and coiffeured hairstyles. They also insist their football team plays with an element of swank.
