Swansea boss Garry Monk 'does not care' about his own future

Swansea City head coach Garry Monk says he does not care about the uncertainty over his position at the club.

The 35-year-old was put in charge of the Swans in February for the "foreseeable" future following the sacking of Michael Laudrup.

Swansea are six points above the Premier League drop zone with five games to go and Monk says his sole focus is on keeping them up.

"Whatever happens with me, happens with me, I don't care about that," he said.

"I just want the team to do well and get us safe as soon as possible and then push on from there and whatever will be, will be."

Swansea missed the chance to open up a nine-point gap between them and the relegation zone, losing 1-0 at Hull City on Saturday.

George Boyd's header from Liam Rosenior's cross gave the home side a 39th-minute lead and the Tigers held on to take all three points.

Monk was frustrated by his side's performance and the result and says his thoughts are totally on the job in hand.

"Right now it's about me doing this job," he said.

"I'm doing it to the best I can and I'll make sure that these players do it to the best they can.

"They'll know about it and I'll make sure we'll get a reaction in the next game."

That game is against title-chasing Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, 13 April.

The Swans have only won twice in the Premier League in the nine top flight matches Monk has overseen.

Four of the nine points they have picked up in those games came in the two games before the defeat at Hull - an impressive draw at Arsenal and comfortable 3-0 win at home to Norwich..

But Monk says he is not thinking about how many points will be required to secure Swansea's top-flight status.

"I don't even care about it, points tally wise," said Monk.

"I just want to win the next game. I want to get three points as soon as possible and want to get another three points after that.

"That's the mentality the players have to have and everyone at this club."
