Rangers: Kris Boyd signs one-year contract at Ibrox

Rangers have completed the signing of striker Kris Boyd on a one-year contract.

The 30-year-old returns to the club he left four years ago, having scored more than 100 goals for the Ibrox side between 2006 and 2010.

"I'm thrilled to be back, I'm a Rangers fan and I know everything about the club," Boyd told the Rangers website.

"As soon as I knew there was a bit of interest in me from Rangers, there was only one place I was going."

Boyd, who was the SPL's all-time leading goalscorer, netted 22 times for Kilmarnock last season, and the Rugby Park outfit hoped he would sign a new contract.

Aberdeen and Dundee United were also keen to sign the forward after his deal at Killie expired.

Boyd is 20th on Rangers' all-time list of leading goalscorers with 128 in 192 games, and he is determined to add to that tally.

"To get the chance to come back to the club is fantastic and it's a great opportunity for me to get back and score goals for this club," he said.

"It's what I love doing and it's been a long time but hopefully we can hit the ground running.

"I know I've only signed for a year but the main focus is to get myself back in this jersey, scoring goals and get the club back where it belongs.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist said Boyd's signing was "great news" for the club.

"He obviously showed a great desire to come back and we were very keen for him to come back," said McCoist.

"Kris is probably still, in my opinion, the most natural finisher in the country.

"His goal tally last year down at Kilmarnock was sensational really and it's maybe not for me to say but his goals certainly went a long way to keeping Killie in the division.

"I would say we are bringing back a far more experienced and knowledgeable player.

"He is now at the stage of his career where he will be a real benefit to our team and our squad with his experience, his goals and the knowledge he has gained from all the places he has been throughout his career."

Boyd helped Rangers win two Scottish top flight titles in his first stint at Ibrox, as well as two Scottish Cups and two League Cups.

Gordon Strachan signed him for Middlesbrough in 2010 but the 18-times capped Scot failed to reproduce his goalscoring exploits south of the border.

He left 'Boro in 2011 to join Turkish club Eskisehirspor, and then signed for American MLS side Portland Timbers.

Boyd returned to Scotland last year and signed a deal with Killie, where he started his career.

He rediscovered his scoring touch and his 22-goal haul, including a crucial winner against Hibernian on the last day of the season, helped keep the Rugby Park side in the Premiership.

Striker Kenny Miller has also returned to Ibrox as the club prepare for the Championship campaign.

Edinburgh clubs Hibernian and Hearts will also be in the second tier next term.
